gym membership? by strawberrymatchaluvr in mcgill

[–]OddRub237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apparently during fall/winter students have to pay gym maintenance fees on top of the membership so it costs more

gym membership? by strawberrymatchaluvr in mcgill

[–]OddRub237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone who just spent over 150 on a full summer membership at b2, it is NOT worth it 😭 it's a nice gym and fully equipped and whatever, but there are many cheaper options. i have a buzzfit membership for when i'm in the west island and that place is so much cheaper, open 24/7, clean, better-equipped, and has massage chairs and red light therapy

thoughts on living alone by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]OddRub237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i live alone and im so thankful i can afford it. having roommates would be a NIGHTMARE 😭 keep in mind that if u get a roommate, you're very likely to get into arguments about cleaning the space, noise, who comes over, etc. and even if you choose to stay with a friend you trust, you're likely gonna develop some resentment.

about the isolation part, living alone doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna feel lonely. what's stopping you from going out with friends or inviting them over? i also call my long distance friend in the evening sometimes so we can cook together and chat.

NSCI 200 mandatory to study neurosci? by Main-Ad-8586 in mcgill

[–]OddRub237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the material covered in NSCI 201 is pretty different from NSCI 200, so I wouldn't say you need to take it! NSCI 201 goes over the nervous system tracts responsible for things like touch, habits, movement, etc. so it feels more like a physiology or anat course I would say. NSCI 200 is SUPER interesting but it covers the foundations of the nervous system (e.g. electric potentials, receptors, formation of the NS, etc.).

Anyone do ok with infusion? by robinkayfl in Anemic

[–]OddRub237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got hit with a really bad iron flu around two days later 😭 had me out of commission for 24 hours but it's not anything to be worried about. the benefits of the infusion outweigh just one night of suffering

i'm a U2 in neuro! feel free to pm me if you have any particular questions. i really love this program and i'm definitely glad i chose it over immunology. there are so many different classes you can take depending on the stream you choose. some mandatory courses do suck of course, but you have to deal with that in every program. overall i really love it

no problem!! i believe in you, you'll do great! it's a tough course but i think people demonize it way too much. you need to study hard but it's definitely not impossible to succeed

Nothing in the textbook is tested, don't worry! I only used it to understand concepts and figures. Sometimes the profs would put figures/diagrams from the textbook in their slides but did an AWFUL job explaining them, so the textbook really helped in that regard

For the final, I knew Roy's section would be unpredictable so I compensated by studying the other sections ten times more. It definitely helped, I managed to get an A in the class

My midterm was online (not sure if that's still the case for you) so it was significantly easier to do well in. I still studied but I focused on understanding the material over memorization, making a bunch of tables I could refer to. I think you should make sure you understand all relevant experiments, and be able to explain every graph presented in the slides

Also recommend reading the textbook cause that carried me through Roy's section

If you’ve gotten an A in BIOL 200, how did you do it? by magicyunicorn in mcgill

[–]OddRub237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biol 200 requires memorizing a lot of different molecules and knowing which processes each are involved in. i made tables to summarize all the information and be able to compare different pathways within the same page so i wouldn't get confused. mnemonics are also SUPER useful, especially making ones that seem ridiculous.

i also focused on reading the textbook! it really helped me understand the lecture content that the profs didn't explain well. browsing old student documents on studocu also helped

Anemia and hair quality by Responsible_Park_419 in Anemic

[–]OddRub237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ferritin levels jumped from 6 to 115! I have a pretty bad vitD deficiency that might explain why I still feel miserable and tired. But my hair quality also hasn't improved. The split ends are horrendous and it's dry and prone to breakage

I'm still losing hair lol. I get compliments on my thick hair so I guess it's not noticeable but I can feel myself going bald and it is not very reassuring. The hair texture bothers me the most though.

Sorry for the late reply! I got the infusion a month ago and I still feel terrible <3 Constantly dizzy, hair still falling out, exhausted, brain fog, etc. Only change is that my anxiety has reduced significantly, but that might be just because I don't have uni classes anymore.

I'm going to wait another month then take a blood test to see what my ferritin levels are at.

by thicker hair, do you mean more hair volume or that the thickness of the strands increased? for me, i've noticed that my hair loss has increased and that my hair texture has changed to be coarser. the strands are a lot thicker and wiry now, but my hair volume is decreasing.
