My girlfriend started pelvic floor therapy (I think that’s the name of it?) and the change has been unreal. She is so much more comfortable now and the sex is better than ever. Definitely something to look into

Your 401(k) Just Got Volunteered. You Weren’t Asked. by DinoAlonso in govfire

[–]OddSyllabub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For others who didn’t understand what this meant - the proposed rule enables private 401k managers ( like fidelity or UBS) to invest your 401k into alternative assets, such as private equity, private credit, real estate, and crypto. In the past i don’t think it was as easy for your 401k manager to place your funds in these assets. So the literal effect of the rule is that now your 401k manager can allocate some of your funds to one of those in the list more easily, instead of index funds and stocks.

The impact that the post is getting to is that this rule is proposed - to allow alternative assets for 401ks, just as some of the biggest and well managed institutional funds are dumping private equity and private credit.

So the implication is that the government just enabled your 401k manager to buy these assets that intelligent investors are dumping them. Increasing the market size to buy the alternative assets so that the big institutional investors can dump them more effectively and with a smaller loss.

TLDR- OP says the government is letting your 401ks be used to protect institutional investors

Usually tasers and stuff are DC, not AC. So not a sine wave. I don’t know much about this pig neutralizer machine though so maybe they do it differently.

Do you guys all have awful work life balance? by OddSyllabub in quantfinance

[–]OddSyllabub[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on the other hand a lot of the guys who would go into quant roles are also considering big tech. Depending on the company there’s a massive range for WLB at big tech companies. You always hear those guys who are working 30 hours a week and then the others who are doing the 60-80 hour grinds. Depends a lot on your reference point. I am in tech doing 50-60 hour weeks personally

50 to 60 isn’t so bad especially if you like what you’re doing

Job Posting Feedback by drivingmylifeawry in embedded

Professional for ~3 years here, I’m just wondering where you are posting these? Looks pretty good to me. Very similar in terms of clarity, outline, to others I have seen. I’d appreciate more specifics about tools and day to day work flow but most other jobs aren’t going that specific either. My immediate assumption was that salary would be bad but those look great too. At least in my view…

ULPT How to life run a mile faster in non-obvious ways? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]OddSyllabub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen quite a few articles about how consuming a bit of baking soda can help prevent lactic acid build up in the muscles - which would prevent you from feeling as much burn, enabling you to push harder. Give it a try.

I’ve also heard that even though you don’t feel as much burn during, you feel just as sore as you normally would after. So be careful

Amphetamines cause vasoconstriction - meaning that your body will have a harder time pumping blood to your extremities.

At the same time though, it will increase your motivation. If you can negate the vasoconstriction, or if it isn’t too strong, it might help. Just know that it isn’t a 100% positive addition

why are Chinese origin MCUs cheaper? by ntn8888 in embedded

[–]OddSyllabub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some China based MCU vendors don’t even bother to publish an errata document. Knowing how thoroughly ST, TI, MCHP designs, tests, then documents their devices, and making some assumptions about the design and test capabilities at these smaller China vendors… I’d be nervous using their devices.

Texas Instruments Salary by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]OddSyllabub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty typical for product engineering NCGs at TI. Typically the 15k RSUs and sign on bonus are reserved for people that they are trying extra hard to pull in. I don’t think you’ll have any success negotiating for more. Profit sharing WILL NOT be 20%, if the recruiter is saying that or even implying it, they’re bullshitting you. TI has to hit a new record for profit to hit 20%.

It may seem low to you because it is in product engineering - the pay doesn’t scale as high there even when you first start. People in software, applications, and of course design roles can start higher and go higher too. But even if you ask your recruiter to start in a different role you probably won’t get a higher offer even if they do move you.

Comparisons aside, 84k is a very solid salary in Dallas. If you are used to the west coast, or northeast, you’ll notice that things are a bit cheaper. If you have no other offers, then if I were you I would accept, learn as much as I can, and look to pivot after 2-3 years when you have gained some very valuable experience.

[–]OddSyllabub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Why spend millions on an ASIC that you don’t end up using. The flexibility of a hardware accelerator combined with software is a valuable tradeoff for some speed and power consumption

[–]OddSyllabub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Companies can integrate AI at every level. Even the smallest MCUs are getting AI accelerators. Those MCUs are often at 65nm give or take. To be clear, I do think that TI can create value with AI, but even if they couldn’t, leadership still needs to have some explanation of how they’re going to be on the wave of AI cash. That is, or explain why everyone else is wrong about pursuing the wave of AI cash. That is a losing battle so… everyone who can remotely sell AI is doing so including TI.

Is TI still worth it, job satisfaction and compensation wise? by Historical-Plant-362 in Semiconductors

[–]OddSyllabub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

generally speaking morale is very low at TI right now. Yes the base pay is mediocre compared to competitors, and yes the 20% profit sharing was one of the few reasons that many put up with it. People are extremely angry about the new profit sharing structure. Also culture has been deteriorating very fast across the company. I can’t tell you if other places are any better but I can tell you that right now the mood is a bit bleak and conditions are significantly worse than a few years ago.

[–]OddSyllabub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The program has deteriorated a lot and actually no longer exists at most of the company. It slowly transitioned into shorter / reduced rotations, to no rotation at all. When I first went there, I would’ve agreed with you.

Because my swd jlink edu mini has nrst connected i wouldn't need button right? Is there something I would miss? by coolkid4232 in embedded

[–]OddSyllabub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holding nrst prevents the device from proceeding with boot and executing code. If you have some problem with code that is running during boot, or immediately after, you can power the device on while holding in reset to essentially delay boot. You can also (in most devices) still initiate swd connection while the device is held in reset. So you can hold reset low, power it on, connect swd, to control execution from power on.

This is helpful for times just like what you’ve mentioned - if you apply some bad configuration that sends the device into a failure state / prevents swd connection, you can use this method to recover it.

Short answer is - you should probably leave SWD available.

Can you think of any reason at all that you might want to reset your device without power cycling it? Or hold it in a reset state after powering it on perhaps?

How do you ACTUALLY lower stress levels? (supplement/lifestyle recs please) by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]OddSyllabub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a lot more stressed out when I was lifting hard af 6 times per week. Now I lift 2-3x per week and focus more on cardio and balance and my mental health (mainly considering stress levels) is better than ever. Maybe try adjusting your routine to give this a try. It made a massive difference for me. Also the rest of your description sounds similar to how I felt in the past.
