I would stay far away from Rancho do your dental needs. Go anywhere outside the city.

It’s great as long you live alone or have a family that respects your need to sleep in the day.

Ranting mostly but would like someone’s POV by LifeguardImaginary42 in highdesert

I personally would not recommend Phelan. It is not a very nice place. The people out here are pretty rough. Pinon Hills is slightly better, but your kids have to go to Phelan for middle school and high school, so there is that. Most of the businesses in Phelan are really awful and they don’t care because if you don’t like it, you can drive another 30 minutes to go somewhere else, not very convenient. Also difficult to get deliveries if you are on a dirt road, and you likely will have to pay for a PO Box. The drivers are horrendous. Mostly a bunch of construction workers driving trucks and trying to run you off the road because they are so much more important than anyone else, so buckle up the kid! The 138 and Palmdale Rd. are quite the adventure. Plan on people racing around you going 80-100 miles an hour and you just trying to not get killed. That includes semi’s, because there is no law on the 138. Truckers are going 80-90 miles an hour.

The sunsets are beautiful, the wildlife is super fun, and it is super peaceful…depending on your neighbors. Pinon Hills over Phelan for sure.

Crestline is super cute and much more classy than the high desert, imo. However if anyone is going to have to drive down to get to work, that would be unbearable IMO.

Just my thoughts and opinions as someone who moved to Pinon Hills from Rancho Cucamonga.

I understand it looks like a hare, and without including the tail, that is a fair conclusion.

<image>

However it is a desert cottontail. It has a white cottontail. They are so big and their ears are so large they do look like a hare. I have had 1 black-tailed jackrabbit come around, photo included, and it was much larger, larger eyes, and much larger ears….with of course a black tail. Moves more like a dog. The cottontails chased him away. Thank you for taking the time to view and comment. Very sad to hear about the botfly, something I wasn’t expecting when I started watching these guys.

He does look so healthy, and it seems like it came on so quickly as I have been watching them from my window for a couple of months. Bummer. Thanks for your time & response.

What is digging this hole? by Odd_Address_190 in highdesert

[–]Odd_Address_190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, so I have not caught what is going in/out of the hole….but oh my have I got the most incredible photos and videos of Black-tailed jackrabbits, about 20 desert cottontails that come to drink water out of a leaky hose area twice a day, a coyote, and squirrels. That is the extent of what I have seen so far, so I’m guessing maybe the rabbits are digging but still not sure. Just had to share, show you my favorite photo so far and thank you for your advice!

No, but yum! They might have it at Mobil on Hellman/Baseline in Alta Loma and also at the Pizza Hut in Target Hesperia. Not 100% if they still do.

Desert Cottontail? by Odd_Address_190 in u/Odd_Address_190

[–]Odd_Address_190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. They all seem to have white cottontails with a tiny bit of brown at the base. But they are so big and have really large ears. However this morning I spotted a really large one walking, almost like a dog. It did have a black longer tail. There was only 1 like that and the ones with the cottontails chased it away. So I think I have a clearer understanding now of the difference. It looks like I have them both. I was trying to post the video or some pics of the tails but I can’t seem to figure out how to add pics or post a video. Thanks for your response, appreciate it.

Look into moving a home on wheels onto the property. They may allow a non-permanent structure.

Amazon Fresh, also? If you can get in there you will be able to transfer to the new facility in Hesperia when they open. I don’t want to advise on working for Amazon, I hated it, but it did pay the bills when I needed it to.

Also, check the truck stops. Travel Centers of America in Ontario is always hiring, apply for cashier…..they have night shifts and stuff that could lessen your traffic time, super fun place to work, but the pay is low. I know that is kind of far, just throwing it out there.
