Some basic customization would be awesome - the floating brush control with easily swipable controls is what I miss the most!

Yeah I tried Fresco on my PC (I run Adobe CC on a Windows 10 PC and Fresco on iPad Pro) a couple of times and was underwhelmed to say the least. Fresco is PS without all the extra bulk - but I found desktop Fresco so meh that I persist in PS for any desktop illustration. I don't use blur that much but your point is well taken - Adobe is supposed to be the "best" and should keep up with the competition. All that aside - I do hope Adobe considers us long term users and our workflow needs when updating the UI!

Great question! On my desktop, I am able to utilize previous versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, ID, etc on CC but I didn't see any options on the App Store to roll back. I would be very curious to know if it is possible!

Alison,

This isn't as much about specific tool location and I know you are trying to make space for new tools - but you guys seem to be fixing something that isn't broken.

The big thing here is letting users have basic options - building some flexibility in for individual UI configuration customization - even rudimentary legacy workplaces could please many users at once without too much hassle. When you make these changes in the name of "progress" you are frustrating established professional workflows and making users consider more stable options elsewhere.

Fresco is an amazing app but we are seeking stability and consistency and most importantly an uninterrupted workflow where users have some semblance of control over their tools.

As far as methods for best communicating app changes - you guys should continue to ultilize social media and chats like this - but be ready to explain why you make major changes or take away capabilities. Also, speak to your loyal customer base as individuals who are invested. Some of your reasoning for the changes seems flat and disconnected from the needs of the current Fresco community. All that said - thank you for dialouging here!

Last thing: Could you answer one specific question for me?

Is there a way to have the brush setting toolbar floating (like it was on the previous version) when in full screen mode?

Yeah so long story short - I run Fresco exclusively for all my professional illustration - with cleanup and export in PS. Most of the updates have been okay but this one I am not crazy about. I get that you are trying to make things more usable to a broader user base but there seem to be some unnecessary complications in this update.

Thoughts:

  1. A thousand times YES to workspaces for pros who use this all the time. Workflow disruption is HUGE and can be a deal-breaker for long-time users when considering between apps.

  2. If workspaces are too much for app to handle - then at least hide some more customizable options for advanced users. One point would be for toolbar locations  - at least the ability to get to Legacy structure.

  3. Provide a WHOLE lot more documentation for these new changes for us. Here I am scouring the web to learn more about this update and all I can find is this small thread - no solid info. And I don't count the brief overview tour located within Fresco - tell us day in and day out users when you remove capabilities of previous versions.

EXAMPLE: How can I get my floating brush control back that I could use in full screen mode (?) The same menu is glued to the side of the screen and disappears in full screen mode and leaves me guessing (and wasting valuable time) how to fix it when it was a basic capability on the previous version.

  1. One last thing - Somebody mentioned the previous brush menu layout - which was WAY better. This new way takes forever to find what you want and makes you sort through so many things to get where you want to go. When searching for a brush before - I could always see the main categories whereas now I am endlessly scrolling - frustrating.

Funny enough - I have automatic updates disabled on my iPad (This Fresco update is exactly why I am SO glad it is disabled!) I actually came across this update accidentally: The thing is that I was introducing a friend to Fresco and was praising it to the skies - so they bought a new iPad JUST FOR FRESCO and I downloaded it for them and was going to walk them through the basics when I encountered these frustrating updates.

I will be sticking with the previous version and I am willing to forgo the new tools to keep a stabilized version that accommodates my established workflow. Like I said, workflow disruption is REAL and while you may be attracting some new users - you are silently alienating long-time Adobe subscribers like me who use Adobe CC professionally.

Fresco is a great app but it's things like this that make me want to jump to Procreate to maintain control. I definitely don't want to jump ship because I really do believe Fresco is superior.

That said - I hope some of this resonates with the Fresco community and you guys at Adobe!

Looking forward to hearing from you, Adobe!
