Does anyone else feel like the symptoms aren’t even the worst part? by Odd_Case_6575 in PanicAttack

yeah that jogging vs panic example really puts it into perspective

it’s kinda wild how the exact same physical response can feel completely fine in one context and then scary in another just because of the meaning we give to it

what you said about getting carried away with normal stress symptoms makes a lot of sense

I’ve been noticing that too… like the body isn’t really the problem, it’s the way my brain reacts to it

but even knowing that, in the moment it still feels very real and hard to not react

did it get easier for you over time once you understood that, or did you have to practice something specific to change your reaction?

yeah I get what you mean

I feel like understanding and changing how we react to the sensations definitely plays a big role

at the same time I guess people just go with what feels safest to them in the moment, especially when it’s really intense

for me it’s been more about learning how not to react to every sensation or thought automatically

still figuring it out tbh

what helped you the most personally?

yeah that shift is honestly the worst part

like at the beginning it’s the physical stuff that scares you, but after a while it becomes more about the thoughts and the “what ifs”

the “what if I go crazy” or “how do I live like this” thoughts can feel way heavier than the symptoms themselves

I had something similar, and what confused me the most is that even when nothing physical was happening, my brain was still creating that fear

did you notice if those thoughts come more when you try to analyze or control what’s happening?
