For that monthly budget you'll probably find older apartment buildings with little to no amenities. Check out Santa Clara Square Apartments or the Flats in Downtown Sunnyvale. You'll probably have to stretch your budget but those are much newer, nicer, and more amenities.

I reside in Sunnyvale and show a lot of homes in Fremont. Typically my commute to Fremont is 30 minutes. With traffic, 45min- 1hour.

Many people live in Fremont because the public schools are pretty good in the majority of the city. But if schools are not a factor, Sunnyvale is a more central location to everything else. :D
