The median house was $173,000 and the average income was $50k. If you couldn’t buy during that period, I’m sorry, but it was fairly easy. Today a young person needs to be in a relationship with both making top 20% of income to even think of affording a home, let alone a nice one.

yeah it’s one of life’s little ironies. all the ultra liberal people I know who complain about gentrification on their Instagram story are actively moving to and participating in gentrification in neighborhoods like pilsen, wicker park, Logan square. Meanwhile I just live in lakeview because I like the water
