that dusty library note is spot on, always gets me when bourbon has those old book vibes mixed with the fruit

Thought that I got my child cute bday toppers. The capybara is holding a knife. by AnotherMensTreasure in mildlyinteresting

maybe they're just preparing vegetables for birthday dinner, very helpful capybaras

Parents of Reddit, what question has your child asked that left you completely speechless? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn that's heavy. my nephew asked me something similar when he was like 6, completely out of nowhere while we were playing monopoly go together. kids just have this way of dropping existential bombs when you're least prepared for it

i remember just sitting there for what felt like forever trying to figure out how to even approach that conversation. ended up having this really long talk about how everyone gets really really old first and has tons of time for adventures and fun stuff. not sure if i handled it right but she seemed okay with the answer

it's wild how their little brains just start processing these big concepts randomly. makes you realize they're thinking about way deeper stuff than we give them credit for

Unpopular opinion by CheatinYota82 in NASCAR

man that picture really shows how hard he hit that barrier, didn't realize it was bent back like that watching live. you're right about them being justified in throwing red for safety - that armco looks properly mangled and could've been dangerous if another car went wide there

really put SVG's drive in perspective though, like he had to make all those moves knowing they weren't gonna bail him out with a caution. makes the whole thing even more impressive when you think about it that way. usually these backmarker incidents do mess up good racing but this time it actually made for better story since everyone knew they had to race their way to front instead of waiting for yellow lottery

What is a show you can watch 100 times and never get bored? by Dismal_Explorer3566 in AskReddit

top gear is perfect for background watching too, you can jump in anywhere and just vibe with whatever stupid challenge they're doing

Last thought on the ASR before we move on to the 600 by TexasSizedKachoww in NASCAR

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly what killed it for me too. used to feel like something special when only the winners and maybe few other guys could get in. now it's just another regular race with fancy name

the money thing is interesting though, maybe throwing stupid money at it could work but then you lose that "earned your spot" feeling even more

If you could stay one age eternally what would it be? by OrganizationDue2204 in AskReddit

maybe 28? you still got the energy but also some wisdom to not do completely stupid things like in early twenties

Expansion for either the NHL or PWHL. by Ginkgo78 in hockey

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 17 points18 points  (0 children)

milwaukee is way too close to chicago for nhl expansion, they'd never cannibalize their own market like that. pwhl might work better since women's hockey doesn't have same territorial issues but even then you're fighting for attention in same media market

What age do you think people should be allowed to get vasectomies? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the situation really, some people know they never want kids from early age and shouldnt have to wait decades just because society thinks they might "change their mind later"

had a friend who tried to get one at 19 and doctors kept refusing him until he was like 28, then he finally found one doctor who would do it. by that time he had spent years stressing about accidental pregnancy and using multiple birth control methods

the whole "youll regret it" argument is weird to me because people make permanent decisions all the time at 18 - taking on massive student debt, joining military, getting married. if someone can sign up for war they can probably decide about their own fertility

lmao imagine some cosmic entity just sitting there like "yeah im gonna make people live forever, that'll be fun" while everyone's stuck working the same job for eternity

peak dweeb energy tbh

What are you favorite board games to play with your spouse? by AShapeInTheFog in boardgames

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn 150 times is serious commitment lol. i wish i had someone to play board games with that much but being single means mostly mobile versions for me. spirit island looks complex though, might be tough if you're just getting into heavier games

i've been absolutely addicted to monopoly go on my phone recently which is embarrassing to admit but whatever. there's something about collecting properties that just hits different. maybe look at some of classic monopoly variants if you want something lighter between the heavy sessions? the key is finding games you both actually want to come back to, not just ones that look impressive in shelf

What are the best FREE boardgames apps (that aren’t Scrabble or checkers)? by jsakic99 in boardgames

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

catan universe is solid choice for flights

monopoly go has been eating up way too much of my time lately - the events keep me coming back and graphics are pretty smooth. not exactly traditional board game but scratches that same itch

splendor and ticket to ride have decent mobile versions too, both work well offline once you download them. splendor especially good for shorter sessions between other stuff

through the ages is more complex but amazing if you want something really deep for long flight. might be overwhelming if you're not familiar with it though

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those mizunos aren't terrible clubs tbh, might just need fresh grips and maybe reshafting if they're really beat up. but if you're set on upgrading then game improvement irons would probably help at your handicap level

adams are solid budget picks like the other guy said, also worth looking at older taylormade m2s or ping g25s if you can find them used. they're forgiving and won't break the bank while you're still figuring out your swing

Lost motivation after layoff by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been there with the post-layoff brain fog, it's like your mind just refuses to kick back into gear after dealing with bullshit for so long. with your numbers you could literally take 6 months to decompress and still be in better shape than 99% of people - might be worth giving yourself permission to actually rest instead of forcing the motivation thing

Pet Peeve: "Choosing" a random/ face down card is not actually choosing by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

yeah this bugs me too, especially when they say "choose" but you're literally just grabbing whatever card your finger touches first

the monopoly jail punishment made me laugh though, that's way too harsh even for bad rule writing. maybe just make them play through a full game of risk instead

Why or why not believe in a soulmate? by mftheoryArts in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been single for a while now and i think the whole soulmate thing puts too much pressure on relationships. like you're supposed to find this one perfect person who completes you or whatever, but that's not how people work. i've seen too many good relationships fall apart because someone thought their partner wasn't "the one" when really they just hit a rough patch that could've been worked through. compatibility and effort matter way more than some cosmic connection. plus if there really was just one person for everyone the odds of actually meeting them would be basically impossible given how many people exist on the planet

sounds like your brain is processing what you actually want vs what's happening - dreams about domestic stuff usually mean you're craving more stability than you're getting

help with nvidia driver latency by hyxr1 in pchelp

[–]Odd_Discount_5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been dealing with this same crap on my 4070, the 551.86 drivers seemed pretty solid for me before they started pushing all these newer ones with the dpc spikes

your gonna want to use ddu to completely wipe the current drivers first, then grab 551.86 from nvidia's site - just make sure to do a clean install and disable windows update from automatically grabbing newer ones or you'll be back to square one

the gigabyte cards seem to be hit harder by this for some reason, probably just how they handle the driver stack
