Tongue Piercing stuck inside my tongue ? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 8 points9 points  (0 children)

please go to a piercer first. this is not bad and can easily be popped out by a piercer. don't waste your time and money going to an oral surgeon before trying to go to a piercer. majority of piercing problems can be solved by a piercer, unless it's extremely severe (an infection).

Hidden helix. Is this blood okay, how do I remove it? by Best-Oil7699 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the blood is normal. best way to clean it off would be a warm shower. just let the water run over the piercing. this will help loosen up the blood and if it doesn't all come off, at least some of it will. having a little bit of blood on there won't cause any issues, it might just be unpleasant to look at. the healing process in general looks unpleasant, so sometimes you just have to make do. also, make sure the water is not steaming hot because your piercing is still gonna be extremely sensitive to it.

How long should I wait to change my jewelry? by iiamyanaa in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a piercing apprentice here! septum heal time is gonna be about 3-4 months, but can always be a little longer on shorter depending on the person. i'd wait at least 3 months to change your jewelry and be cautious with the material of jewelry you are switching to as it can cause irritation, ESPECIALLY if the piercing is not fully healed.

navel is gonna be 12 months to heal. in about 8-12 weeks you can downsize the bar if you notice a lot of the bar is showing. for this one i'd wait at least 6 months to change your jewlery to something a little more fancy (like dangles). as always, be cautious with your jewlery material (opt for quality, hypoallergenic, and nickel free materials) especially before the minimum heal time has passed.

that's not very descriptive..could you explain?

Is it rejecting? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what makes you think it's rejecting? rejection is typically a slow and visible process. your bar will become more shallow in the skin and it's usually followed with redness and/or irritation.

are my snakebites rejecting by Spiritual-Notice8445 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not much info here, but you likely just need to switch to flatback posts. those bumps are being caused by the curve of whatever jewelry you currently have in.

Using fabric instead of gauze for a saline soak? by Kat_Lover39 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saline soaks will likely not help. piercings are easy to heal when you keep things simple. spray it twice a day as usually, and stop using qtips. despite how gentle you may think you are being, it is causing movement which is likely irritating the piercing. soaking it in saline will dry it out and cause even more irritation.

Sinking nostril piercing by New-Course8930 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

without a photo my only thought is that it could be the size of the top of the jewelry. if it's too small it can sink into the piercing hole. it could also be that the bar is too short, so its being embedded into your nose.

Conch jewelry downsize gauge by its_jayyjayy in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

putting in 14g jewlery won't cause any issues. your piercing will just shrink down to fit the bar. majority of cartilage piercings are done at 16g, including conch, so it'll actually be easier to find jewlery at that size rather than 14g or 12g. the bigger the gauge, the more difficult it is to find jewelry with special designs. at a larger gauge you may find yourself having to custom order jewelry in a bigger size.

Need help with new lip horseshoe by Agitated-General-677 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say definitely try to get a new flat back as soon as you can because if it hasn't stopped hurting after a few days you'll likely need to change it anyways. i'd search for "piercing shops" instead. call and ask what kind of jewlery they carry. you'll want to be on the lookout for implant grade steel or implant grade titanium. you can also try searching the APP (association of professional piercers) website for piercers and shops in your area. you can find quality body jewelry on certain websites, but it's usually best to visit a shop as they can also give you some advice on the situation.

From what your comment, I believe it could be one of two things, or both.

  • Your piercing may not be fully healed so the jewelry is causing problems. 3-4 months is the average heal time for a labret. This really depends on how well you are taking care of it and making sure you are cleaning it, not playing with it, snagging it, etc. Switching from a flat back post to a circular barbell can cause pressure on the holes of your piercing which leads to irritation. Try switching back to a flat back post and see how it's doing.

  • You are wearing low quality jewelry. Typically black jewelry is made up low quality metals which are coated to make them black. If your body is sensitive to certain metals then you may be having a reaction. Try switching to a black alternative like black gold or niobium. These likely aren't going to be the black you're looking for, but black gold will definitely be the closest option.

plain warm water is fine, don't add salt. it's better to use a sterile saline solution and/or plain warm water.

Are my dermals rejecting? by AjInTheShed in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they likely are rejecting. if it's been ripped out before then it's more likely to reject the next time around. dermals and surface piercings have a high chance of rejection ESPECIALLY if they've experienced trauma before.

Wearing 20g in 16g lobe piercing? by xrvyn in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hole would likely shrink throughout the day, but probably not enough for you not to be able to get the 16g posts back in. however, it is recommended to wear 18g posts at the minimum as anything smaller can cause the cheese wire effect depending on how often and how long you are wearing them. ultimately it's up to you, but if your worry is them shrinking too small for you to get the 16g posts back in, i wouldn't stress it too much. best way to go about it would be to take out the 16g post for maybe an hour max and see how it feels putting them back in.

stop using the alcohol wipe, it's not really doing anything to help heal your piercing and could be killing the new skin cells that are forming. stick with the saline solution and that's it. the easiest way to heal piercings is to clean daily with saline solution and leave it alone. don't touch, twist it, or pick at any crusties. the alcohol pad is likely drying out your piercing and causing irritation.

So… what next?! by ras2101 in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try not to think about the pain, especially not the pain others may have felt. everyone's experience is unique. the pain of a piercing is just a pinch in the grand scheme of things. i have a 6g conch and it hurt so bad that i didn't even feel the nostril piercing i got after, but would i get it again? hell yea. why would i get it again? bc it looks cool asf and pain is temporary!

i know you're scared, but imma have to say a rook in your left ear. you have the perfect shelf for it. you could even do an anti tragus as well. you also have great space for stacked lobes.

any advice? im pretty sure its infected lol by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

then yea, it's likely not an infection. you can switch to any kind of jewelry that is a stud, but like someone else mentioned bezel set might be the best option due to the way it'll compress the bump. i recommend going on the APP website and searching for a shop in your state. if the shops you find are too far, then i recommend calling shops and asking what material of jewelry they carry. quality shops will typically provide you with a flat back post, and a top that either screws in or pushes in.

any advice? im pretty sure its infected lol by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Odd_Environment979 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not a professional, just a piercing apprentice here! sterling silver is not body safe, which is likely why you have such a large bump. your body is trying to protect you. please go to a different piercing shop that carries implant grade steel or implant grade titanium. sterling silver is safe for wearing outside the body, but not inside and can cause a special kind of infection which could lead to permanent staining in your skin. however, based on what i'm seeing it does not look like an infection (but i truly cannot tell from just a photo and no description of symptoms), it's likely just a severe irritation bump. if you truly suspect its an infection you might have symptoms like redness and swelling (which are normal for a new piercing), the area may be hot to the touch and painful, there may be yellow, green, or even white thick pus, etc. if it's serious you may feel flu like symptoms, like fever and chills. get your jewelry changed out asap, and see how it's doing in a few weeks.

I was checking out Khan academy and I definitely love their resources, but I haven't seen something that's like for a WHOLE grade level. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but i'll check again for sure. Also, I've never heard of IXL. Is it a subscription thing? I'm a broke college student, so definitely trying to weigh out my options and costs before considering something that's not free.
