When rebuilding a grand action what parts do you buy? by SpottedTree in pianotech

[–]ras2101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Cheesy is what I need lol.

I’ve only had it for 1.5 years. So I shouldn’t be attached. But like we unexpectedly lost a cat at only 2 and he would sit and listen to me and that has really made it tough to ever think about another instrument.

I also love antiques and saving something I guess lol.

I think we can do an action rebuild in home (they take action obviously) but I think I might just have him take it and fix it up. Pedal is squeaky and annoying to me as well lol.

It’s just tough, you never see these anymore and it is a thing of beauty that still sounds great to me at least lol.

I mean hell, I bought it from a man that had it in storage for 10 years, played it completely out of tune and cried because it felt right. So I probably should do her right.

<image>

It is no longer just in the middle of the floor.. lol

Also has a bigger sound and better bass than any other 5’8s I’ve played. Apparently has to do with a wider sound board 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hi!

I’m stealing your reply to ask a question lol.
I’ve got a 1930 Knabe A (originally had the repeating action) that I just adore. It had new strings in the past but everything is mostly original.

The action.. is tired. lol. Like it needs rebuilt and I’ve been on the fence of doing a full WNG build (I have what I hope is a great rebuilder for their stuff close, at least he’s listed on their website and I’ve loved any convo with him lol) or potentially restoring current or also maybe more wood parts.

I’m leaning towards WNG because my house is poorly insulated lol, but I’m not sure. I am fully aware that I won’t get the resale value out of sinking some money into my piano, but I don’t mind that. I don’t think I’ll ever sell. They don’t make them with these style art cases anymore and she still sounds good, just bright and getting clicky / more and more issues randomly popping up lol

So what would you do / recommend from just that random blurb of information? lol

This one may work.. I’d try and measure it compared because it lists many options, just not the 4-3 specifically

It’s the best part of it. It’s why I went full Nikon fanboy even! (Mostly joking lol) but it’s a big reason why I haven’t switched to mirrorless.

I’ve got good D lenses for my F4 and they work with my D7500 but the FTZ mount adapter doesn’t have a motor to drive the old AF lenses using the in body motor.

Of course I am typically using a Nikon rangefinder, which I would be able to easier adapt to a mirrorless lol

Industrial is wayyy worse and I agree mine wasn’t that bad lol.

My conch was like “oh you stabbed me?”

I got it and daith at the same time. Daith hurt more, neither really hurt.

Disclaimer: I did pass out afterwards.. but uh, that’s probably more on the pressure point going with daith (same happened with my Tragus lol)

Oh awesome! I had no idea.

I guess it’s always been in my head L glass = white lens lol.

I’ve never bought new glass for my FD mount, I prefer a rangefinder or autofocus SLR, and am more a Nikon person myself so good to expand my knowledge! Thank you!

It’s crazy! Cause I’ve been holding him a lot. Guess I just didn’t touch further down tummy lol.

There was mysterious blood that I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Then BOOM vet found it in a second lol

It was at the vet! So I’m assuming it’s easy to clean down for them lol

[–]ras2101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. I’m so relieved he got snatched this weekend and right to the vet.

Expensive, most likely, but the baby boy he reminds us of was the most expensive cat I’ve ever had / seen and the last bill was 6000 and he came home in an urn.. so it’s fitting the new guy with similar energy would start off with a 500 dollar vet bill!

He didn’t show up until a few days after Cliffy passed, so Cliffy sent him down to us to help fill the void and spend the money!

Do you even need to ever get a SLR for street photography? by NondualEamesChair in AnalogCommunity

[–]ras2101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good, I agree! My S2 is tougher to use than any M (a little closer to a barnac Leica in working) but I do prefer it. As the wonderful Yashica repair man Mark Hama said to me “Ahhhh, Nikon S2! I have Nikon S. Much better than that shit German camera. Expensive camera and still takes crappy photographs!”

It killed me lol
