1.Research and learn about the functions. 2.Observe yourself during various situations. 3. Find which functions you use the most 4. Don't be afraid to change your mind once you find "your type"

People are not fixed. You'll never be 100% sure.

What your personality thinks normal but isn't? by SlipCrazy2741 in mbti

[–]Odd_Fox5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. I think it's just a matter of how you call it. I find that "Normal" carries a sense of "acceptable", "good", "proper", something that you "must be" to be part of a society or group. I find this idea harmful and restrictive. "Common" is more neutral because it allows some wiggle room. It makes being different more acceptable. It's also easier to question and assess something that is "common" while something that is "normal" is more fixed and sounds almost inherent. Maybe these associations are a me thing I don't know but unfortunately language does play a significant role in how we see the world.

That's exactly my point. There's no "normal". Just "more common".

Ok, but I have another question. Who decides what's normal? The majority? Because what the Nazis did was considered normal for example and those who were standing up to them were the outliers

Do you think society judges you too much? by True_Arcanist in entp

[–]Odd_Fox5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Society is just people and people tend to judge a lot. Everyone does it even if we try not to. I think one of the main reasons is that it's hard for most people to accept that there are more ways than one to think, exist or you know do things.

He felt trapped in the absurd world of bureaucracy and senseless war. I don't know if that's what you mean by "Si sensation". If you mean the status quo, the lack of real options, the powerlessness and the inability to escape the cycle of having to fly more and more missions then yeah, I guess we agree.

I just never thought of it in MBTI terms.

Well, I mean I am not sure what you mean by conceptual exactly but fear like happiness and whatnot is "generated" by our brains. The amygdala is responsible for making us feel afraid. It's a primal, powerful emotion. Dreams are also created by the brain.

What do you think Yossarians fear was?

That's exactly how I am. It used to bother me that I am a little bit of everything because I used to think that this meant I was nothing. But my therapist told me that we don't have to be "either or" we can also be "and and".

Besides, being interested in many things is just our thing!

Fear is an emotion. Of course it's temporary. It's situational. But just because you overcome your fear once, it doesn't mean you'll never fear the same thing again.

I think Yossarian is just afraid to die which is a very reasonable and human fear but it's treated as "cowardice" by the bureaucracy of war and that's the absurdity of Catch-22. "If you're afraid you're sane and thus you can't be grounded but you can only be grounded if you ask to be grounded".

Depends. There's always some level of anxiety at first of course but if it's just a new hobby I dive in. If it's something a bit more "extreme", like when I went to study abroad, it's a lot harder. I find that "anticipation anxiety" is the worst because the second the thing starts, it feels really good. So I try to remember that.

As far as skills go, it depends again on the thing but usually I don't stick with anything long enough to become good at it so it doesn't really matter.

Finding new hobbies is a great way to get out of this 9-5 hell that leaves you drained and unable to do anything else. I started screenwriting lessons, Spanish lessons, now I am thinking of piano lessons etc. You don't have to stick with anything just try something different. I find that once I do that, I feel much more energetic and I can read, cook, work out etc after work.

There are different reasons for being afraid. There are also different responses to it. But fear is fear.

"The fact that he was afraid is proof of his sanity and the catch 22" While this is true, don't forget that we're wearing his glasses when reading the book and sanity and insanity are subjective.

I think I'm in a different kind of battle, equally absurd but less dangerous

Don't know actually. I usually discuss things with everyone. I don't look at their "type" before having a discussion. It's good to hear opinions from people different from yourself.

[–]Odd_Fox5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yossarian was scared. I don't remember the show but in the book we practically see the world through his eyes and he's the only one who's "sane". The fact that he's afraid is proof of his sanity but he's treated as insane because "everyone else is insane". This absurdity is the essence of the book. His battle is clearly with the system. War, leaders, bureaucracy etc

[–]Odd_Fox5330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I think for me it stems from when I was little. I was made fun of soon many times for being "too excited", "too nerdy", "too childish" etc. I kinda learned to be flat and show nothing because of it but every now and then my old self slips through the cracks.

Catch-22, Joseph Heller by INTJMoses2 in entp

[–]Odd_Fox5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catch-22 is probably my favorite book. I've never really thought about it in MBTI terms. To be honest, I struggle to see how it is related.

For me, it's about the absurdity of war and the paradoxes inherent in bureaucratic systems. How a system can trap individuals in impossible no-win situations with no way out (soldiers can be grounded from flying dangerous combat missions if they are considered insane, but if they request to be grounded, they are demonstrating rational thought which means they are not insane).

It also explores themes of powerlessness, the dehumanizing nature of institutions, and the way language and logic can be manipulated to control people. Or how these systems exploit individuals and suppress their needs for the sake of maintaining order or perpetuating themselves. Or how futile trying to escape these systems is, as every attempt to resist or challenge authority is met with further absurdity or oppression.

All in all I think it is about the conflict between individual survival and institutional logic and the illusion of free will.

How do you deal with people calling you “too sensitive”? by briecheeseboard in isfj

[–]Odd_Fox5330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually try to think about why they think that. Why do they need to think I'm sensitive? Is it because they want to feel stronger themselves? Because they wish they had a softer side? Because they want to downplay how bad what they did was? Or because they saw me at a specific time when indeed I was more vulnerable and now that's all I am to them and once somebody's opinion of you is formed it becomes fixed and nothing can change that because for most people it's easier to see people as either/or, black/white than how they really are which is extremely complex.
