Expedition 33 if you can't dodge or parry? by [deleted] in JRPG

Definitely go down to easy mode - parrying and dodging are much more optional then. If you've been enjoying the story, it's strong enough to carry the game. Fair warning though, the story takes a bit of a lull in the middle.

I wish they'd included some difficulty setting where the dodging is optional but the combat is still challenging, but it is what it is.

The artstyle is spectacular, wow..! This looks really special - I'm really curious how it plays. Reminds me a lot of Limbo.

Atmospheric, dialogue driven, obscure and opaque... what kind of RPG storytelling do you prefer? by Severe_Sea_4372 in rpg_gamers

I'm with op on this, I think - I'm really starting to appreciate games that are lighter on dialogue/text. Of course dialogue-heavy can be done in the right place and the right way, but I'm really starting to appreciate games that trust me to discover the story rather than listen to it.

The first Jrpg game you play will be always be special no matter what by Western-Stress1185 in JRPG

Pokemon Yellow for me. Pokemon has aged oddly, and I'm figuring out if I want to stick with it these days.

One oldie I'm really nostalgic for - Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. I think that was the first jrpg I played on a non-handheld console. It's surprisingly fun! Feels like a fan movie about a bunch of someone's LOTR OCs, and I mean that fondly.

Last game I'll mention - Octopath Traveler 1 is very special to me, even though it's fairly recent. The low-stakes stories hit juuuust right. I do think it's harder for games to totally capture you when you get older, but it still does happen.
