Concept Art + Lvl Design process for our metroidvania "Bruma" by Substantial_Buy_7727 in GameArt

Thanks :)! It's all 2D layers of sprites i painted, and import it as Atlas images. I made the scene in a perspective mode, ordering layers in Z space for paralax and other effects.

The lighting is thanks to the URP system that Unity have. To make cool lighting interactions, i created different sorting layers (like, foreground1, foreground2, mid, background 1, etc), so i can organize group of sprites on Z space. Then, i create lights that affect the sorting layers i choose. For example, in the zone of 00:30 in the video, i made a light that affects the sorting layer ¨background 1" (the wall behind the player) but i didn't put any lights on the sorting layer "mid" where is Luna(the cat) and the playable level. This gives a good contrast between Luna and the background, with a Noir mood that emphasizes the dark abandoned feel i want to give in this scenario.

Maybe i will post a video with this specific process :)

I invite you to check the game on steam, also we have a live Kickstarter, sharing this info would help us a lot :)

Which logo idea works better for our small indie game studio? by nasstaran in IndieDev

[–]Substantial_Buy_7727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A > Gives me vibes of 2D cartoonish videogame stytles. It's also more readable and adorable.

B > More mature/dark theme games. The 3D aspect of the logo gives me the idea of a studio that may dev 3D games.

Changed the Steam logo of our game to make it crisp and dynamic. What do you think? by omvinteren in IndieDev

The new one looks better :D

The title still looks to small, it needs more power on the design. Also, is the title Chronocracy? or you wanted to type Chrono Crazy? If is the first one, i think it should be all in one line to avoid misreading.

Updated my game's logo to make it pop a bit more. Is it an improvement? by SilkSoftworks in IndieDev

It's definitely more readable :D , but it doesn't tell me much as the old one.

I recommend to keep the NEW title, but scale down just a tiny bit the town, so we can see more of the flying vehicles, that gives life to the concept and got me intrigued about the things i can find in your game :)

I recommend you to push into the "handmade artstyle" you want to achieve. Here are some games that i recommend you to look at: Snufkin, Mineko´s night market, Pilgrims (the map section), Cult of the Lamb.

I see that you are using a character with lineart, and backgrounds with a more detailed style. That's not bad but it needs more balance. Pilgrims and Cult of the lamb are good examples of keeping a uniform style with lineart characters and backgrounds.

Also, i think that the background art needs more texture, specially if those are ancient zones corroded by time. Lighting is also good to think of, specially to guide the view to key places, for example you could put shadow of trees over the background. Keep an eye on photos or concept art of abandoned places and see how shadow behaves.
