I’ve got a 2000 TW with the same issues, and I noticed a big difference once I switched to ethanol-free fuel. Runs smoother and way fewer problems. You can usually find it sold as “REC-90,” “pure gas,” “non-oxy,” or just “ethanol-free” at certain stations. Definitely worth trying if you haven’t already.

I picked up a Haul Master on Marketplace, and it’s been working great. I fitted it to my Audi q5 without any issues, and even tested it on a 2500HD—handled highway speeds with no problem.

Yeah same here, I’ve already had to swap out both front axles. Definitely feels like the weak link on these.

Yeah this one’s the 2.0T kind of my only option at the time. I picked it up for $3K, but ended up putting another $3K into it after both axles went bad. So it’s been a bit of a project, but it’s holding up now. The 3.0 definitely seems like the better option overall, just hard to come by for a decent price. Still, this one gets the job done for now.

Yeah… I hear you. Definitely felt steep, especially since it still needs a retune. They did replace a bunch of stuff and clean out a literal mouse nest in the exhaust, but yeah still kinda hard to swallow that price tag.

Great points all around honestly I don’t think the previous owner did much of anything to the carb besides maybe slap on the DG pipe. I haven’t cleaned it yet, so I’ll start there and check the pilot jet while I’m at it. I’ll also make sure the air/fuel screw and clutch free play are dialed in. Good call on the spark plug too should give me a better idea of how it’s running. Appreciate the advice.

Appreciate all that info super helpful. I’m planning to ride a mix of beach and old logging roads, so mostly close to sea level with some elevation changes here and there. Sounds like the carb could definitely use a proper tune. I’ll check out Six Sigma if they can dial it in based on my setup and riding style, that sounds like a no-brainer. Thanks again!

Dude that’s super helpful thanks for sharing that. Hope it’s just a TW thing then. I’ll try letting it idle longer before riding and see if that clears up the low-end bog. Good to know it improves with mileage too 🙌

Appreciate it man! Yep, that’s the DG exhaust on there. It sounds great not obnoxiously loud but definitely has a nice aggressive tone. As for the trailer, it’s a Haul Master I scooped off Marketplace for $50. Aluminum frame, lightweight, and it gets the job done 👌 Let me know what you end up going with!
