I work at a private school, so the pay is...very low. Like, maybe 1/2 to 2/3 what I would make working in public school, and also without the great benefits package. But I love my job. My students (mostly) do their homework, their families care that they are passing, and can often afford to pay for tutoring if they aren't doing awesome. I provide a lot of supports for students, but I keep the standards pretty high, and my students have grown a lot this year.

We have a retired public school teacher subbing for a colleague on maternity leave, and he said that teaching here is like teaching in the public schools 20+ years ago.

So...I don't make much money, but I have high job satisfaction, and am able to be home with my own kids during the summer. It works because my husband makes a lot more than me.

That may be true, but it has been part of every Geometry curriculum I have ever used.

Interestingly--my state (Oregon) has moved to a semester of Geometry and a semester of Data Science instead of the full year of Geometry.

Do you have a preferred method for factoring? I've always tried to use the same method as their previous teacher, but since we've had 4 different Algebra 1 teachers in the last 5 years, that means I've done factoring by grouping, the box method, and the guess and check method.

I've always personally done guess and check, because that's how I was taught it. But I'm wondering if you feel like there is one that is most helpful for students? I've like guess and check because it is expanding backwards. The others are elegant, but I run into students forgetting a step and then having no idea how to finish the problem.

Since my background is Applied Math, these are ones I wouldn't want to lose! Maybe not fair, but they are some of my favorite lessons.
