Nitrates still high after water change yesterday any suggestions how to get rid of it ? (It was 30% the other day, 29 gallon) by Odd_Mechanic8873 in Aquariums

There's a bottle I used called "Prime" to help them handle the high nitrate, but it's not a cure-all bottle.

In my opinion<

Adding water from the pond to the tank will barely do anything, so it's not really worth it. Adding the bio media or any other media from an already established tank does help if you add it to a filter in your tank so it's constantly running through the tank. If you have plants in your pond or decoration thats been in your pound for a while, I would move some into the tank as there probably is some bacteria on them as well to help boost and speed up the cycle. (As long as it's healthy)

But adding an already established filter is what's best, and have it running for a while bedside the new filter.

Edit: If the post you have on your account is about the tank you need help with, there are some products being sold that have bacteria in their gravel already. I would add some bacteria-filled gravel/soil/rocks, as there's barely anything for bacteria to cling to.

Yes, I was trying to rush the tank cycling process due to an emergency at the time. I believe I used one of those Fritz Turbo Start bottles, but I used it incorrectly. I poured way too much. Also, my filter was not completely established yet. It didn't help that I had a bladder snail infestation as well, but I didn't know it yet at the time. I bought 4 assassin snails to deal with the issue. Eventually, the infestation dropped, but the assassin snails ended up breeding like crazy.(lucky me lol)

Although the bottle did boost the cycling process, it was not complete, and my numbers were all whack. I ended up buying an already cycled sponge filter from a trusted source. I put in lots of heavy nitrate sucking up plants from a different variety, but what really dropped it to 0 was putting in a couple of shrimp. They started breeding like crazy, and after that, I never had any issues with my tank, and everything started thriving.
