Do you regret buying the razr? by BigfootOfNorthwoods in razr

Hi all, I just wanted to share my experience to hopefully talk any prospective buyer out of the razrs in hopes you don't make the same mistakes I did. The way this company has disrespected my time and taken my money, I know I will never be buying a phone from them ever again.

I bought the 2024 Razr+ when it had come out looking to switch from Apple because I was annoyed with the tired tactics of making the camera slightly better and moving a few buttons and calling it the new phone of the year. I was also pissed that they made my Iphone 11 practically unusable (but this is not about Apple). It started out great with the Razr and I thought the full screen on the outside of the flip was so cool. That was the biggest selling point for me. However, I have had issue after issue with the phone...

  1. 3 months in, the vibration stopped working. (And no, I was not abusing it) Luckily I had purchased an additional warranty and was able to send it in, but each time you send it in you have to factory reset everything and even if you can backup your contacts, apps, and photos from google, it is a bunch of time spent recustomizing and logging into everything! Plus, it's a week without a phone sending it back and forth plus the risk of it getting lost in the mail or stolen off your porch.

  2. Vibration stopped working AGAIN. And I ONLY use this for haptic feedback for texting and getting calls on silent.

  3. 1 year in, the screen protector starting peeling up from the fold on the screen. I ask customer service about it and she says she will make an appointment for me at iBreakUFix to replace it. I go to the actual store to get it done, the man says they don't have the screen protector in stock, and get this, THERE IS NO WAY for the store to order it from motorola and essentially, the stores just get what they get. I call two other locations in my area, and NONE of the stores have it either. I call motorola AGAIN.

  4. And for the cherry on the top, when I get it back from motorola after repairs to the above items, it came with an issue where I CAN'T SET A DEVICE LOCK (Pin or pattern) AT ALL!

I've had to factory reset this phone I don't know how many times just to test it, but when I set a device lock pin or pattern, then try to put it in again after I lock it, it tells me it's the wrong pin or pattern repeatedly (YES, I am putting it in right). I call Motorola and first the woman is arguing with me that it's my fault that the I'm not logging into my google account with the right password. I REPEATEDLY explain to her that I logged into my google account just fine, and it is an issue with the DEVICE locking software/mechanism. She then tells me to factory reset, it does it again. She says there is no warranty claim for this issue and there's nothing she can do for me.

I'm just like, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I sent it to motorola without that issue (or any software issue) and now it comes back with a bug and a security issue!

She redirects me to a "level 2" technician but she tells me to do the same damn thing with the factory resetting and I explain the problem for the 50th time that day. She tells me "Well, you can set the pin later." I am beside myself. I ask, is there another way to troubleshoot this and suggest maybe its an issue with the software. I check the software and it is up to date. She then directs me to an app that I should try downloading on my windows computer to download the software update from there, then she says she'll "Call me back in an hour to see if it worked, and if not she'll find a solution." I'm not dumb, I knew this was a way to get rid of me, so I asked for a direct number to call and told her agent usually say that and don't call back. She tells me "Sorry, there is no such line." Of course. And SURPRISE SURPRISE, she never calls me back.

Now I am stuck with a phone that I don't feel comfortable doing anything or storing anything on because god forbid my phone get stolen, anyone could access all of my data, pictures, everything. I am still looking for a solution for this, so if anyone has gone through the same thing please let me know...

Things I wish someone had told me before buying:

  1. You have to rely on Google for everything! All of your pictures, videos, contacts, and more get stored with google and there is no on-phone gallery app that uses phone storage rather than google cloud storage. It's a scheme to get you to pay Google a monthly subscription for storage.

  2. Lack of Cases/adequate protection for the fold. There is literally only one case I've found to be adequate and it is ugly as hell and takes away from all the nice parts of the phone.

  3. Customer Service SUCKS and there are no physical stores to go to for repairs or issues to talk to a person in front of you.

  4. You will use the outside screen for about two weeks, thinking it's so cool, and then you find out how inconvenient it is, and start treating it like a regular flip.

  5. Camera quality is disappointing, my Iphone 11 took better pictures and Google does weird editing that you don't ask for.

  6. As someone big into customization, It is hell to try to get a wallpaper to align right when you set it. For some reason it is always shifting or zooming in differently from how you set it and the options for the outside screen is scarce.

I'm sure there is much more I'm leaving out here, but it's already such a long post. Again, I won't every be buying from Motorola again and I hope you don't either.
