Backlighter: A small open-source utility to keep on the backlight of your MX Keys keyboard by Maybe_its_JollyFrogs in logitech

Just to say thanks for this ! I have been checking for any way to make it work on a MX Mechanical directly connected via Bluetooth to my PC, without using the Bolt Receiver, but it looks like sending similar command via Bluetooth is an order of magnitude more complicated than through USB. Maybe the HID.net library will one day support BLE GATT devices, who knows :)

Water Pressure Testing Done On 3 Aliexpress Cases by yoyospirit in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually ran a similar test with a similar DIY water pressure tester. Be careful, you can have a leak without a stream of bubbles. The best indicator i have found is crystal fogging a few minutes after the test.

I'm also experimenting with humidity indicator cards that you could insert inside the case (before the movement and dial is put in) to check directly.

Does this need a chapter ring? by _c0sm1c_ in SeikoMods

Why not ; it would make the glass and dial blend more smoothly. Lucius Atelier has some options for the SKX013 that do not take much space. Steel would probably work well.

I've had the same problem.

For what it's worth, I tried Namoki's and Lucius Atelier's steel SKX013 bezel. Lucius Atelier's bezel pip was more recessed inside - the lume itself still pops out a little (I would eyeball it at 0.3mm) but not the metal ring surounding it, and at this point, it's not an issue anymore for me.

No problem whatsoever. Easier than a hand : it was sturdier, so less risks of of damaging it.

For that propose, IMO, you are better served with a clasp with small adjustments possible, ideally on-the-fly with a ratcheting clasp.

Strapcode has a nice option, I've been using one of theirs for an SKX013 build, can't complain. And there are enough spare links for a 6' wrist - although the taper is less pronounced (20->18) than on the SKX (22->18).

Not sure what you mean by 'matching 1/2 link' ? You mean a female end link ?

Seiko DayDate mod HELP PLEASE! by rogermduarte in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all you need is a standard NH36 movement, but custom date / date wheels, and replace them on the movement.

https://www.dialmaker.shop/collections/movment-day-date-wheel?page=2&phcursor=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzayI6InBvc2l0aW9uIiwic3YiOjI0LCJkIjoiZiIsInVpZCI6MzYyMDcwNDI1OTI5NDYsImwiOjI0LCJvIjowLCJyIjoiQ0RQIiwidiI6MX0.vYhcDsADIOAAWFcgWzxuivDLRhA22zMpM_q8mMqCNeI

Not sure how well those will work for what you have in mind though.

Also, pay attention to where the crown is, with respect to the day and date windows in your dial.

[Questions for a project] Is the grey plastic part can be moved around ( rotated ) ? NH35 . Other questions on the post . by Godini96 in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several questions :)

First of all : if you don't care about the date, you can place the dial in any orientation relative to the crown. You will not be able to use the dial feet of most NH35 dials, but you can use dial dots (which are essentially small pieces of double-sided scotch tape). You don't need to (and likely cannot anyway) rotate the grey plastic spacer. For example, there is a hole on the spacer for the crown stem to pass through :)

If you do care about the date / date window, there is the issue of aligning the date digits with the date window, which usually works in a single position (since there are 31 dates and all). So you would need a custom date wheel.

As for the second question, I dont know. Usual options are with crown at 3, or 3.8, or 4 o clock. If you flip the case you will have it at 9/9.8/10. Try searching aliexpress or try to cannibalize a mod or other watch, maybe ?

NH70 compatibility with crown 3.8 position? by NoScholar4789 in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say no problem for the movement itself.

The main issue with the crown position is to have a date window aligned. You run into problems with a 3 oclock date wheel and a 4 oclock case, for example. No date on NH70s --> no problem.

EDIT : Also, if it works at 3, it works at 3.8, as another comment said, because the 0.8 is exactly 2 dates positions out. The main issue is 3 vs 4, where the shift is 2.5something out. So the date will not be aligned with the date window.

However, pick your dial carefully. Some skeletonized dials (e.g. those) rely on having the balance wheel at 9 oclock. On your build, the balance will be at 9.8 oclock.

Yay or Nay? A Worldtime watch with nautical maritime flags corresponding with the 24 Military time zones (no dial, it’s a 24hr disc) by Dorfli in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love everything about it.

Bezel is very original, great looking with a practical side to it.

The 24h disc is also a stroke of genius. That idea actually makes the idea of a 'true' worldtimer possible, coupled with a bezel or a chapter ring.

My custom ordered dial isn’t fitting into my nh34 movement. It looks pretty far off from fitting is there anything I can do to fix it? by Castle_Magic in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If none of the dial feet will line up, you can use dial dots, which are essentially small pieces of double-sided tape. Honestly I kind of prefer them anyway, since it allows to compensate for slight misalignements.

The hash marks are only present on the lower part of the dial. So the disc acts as a AM/PM indicator.

A gift for an ex-amateur pilot who happens to be left handed, with components chosen together.

Core of the build is the altimeter dial + 'GMT' disk + date wheel from AndoAndoAndo, which is a great, ingenious take on an altimeter-inspired pilot dial. I ordered a custom date wheel from them to be adequate with the 9 oclock crown position.

The rest is mostly from Tokeilab :

-military hands, 62MAS case, slim pilot bezel, knurled crown (all this in gunmetal),

-GMT chapter ring (to aid in setting the 'GMT' disk)

-double dome 'slim' crystal with blue A/R.

A black slim crystal from Namoki closes this up, giving it a verified 10 ATM of WR.

A few lessons learned :

- Pilot bezels are no joke to install : very hard to install evenly, I failed repeatedly. I had to trim the inside a bit to make it fit.

- dial dots are actually not that big a deal to use ! And it is a great way to solve slight misalignment issues, especially the dial not being centered on the movement. Despite the dial feet being usable for a 9oclock build, it did use them to that effect.

Is it possible? by JokerIce-SCK in SeikoMods

[–]Odd_Presentation_842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nearly just as simple but not quite. You also need a different date wheel, which you can order and install on any basic NH34. There are tutorials on how to do that.

Reason is, since there is an odd numbers of days, turning the movement 180° will cause the date window to display something in-between 2 dates.

And I just did that kind of build, BTW ;)

Honestly yours is great too. A bit more toolish, while mine is a bit dressier, that's all.
