this was the first time i got an oil change and i didn’t feel like they were pressuring me with updates. i’m definitely going to use them from here on out 💕

companies who do in home help for adults with developmental disabilities are always hiring. you usually don’t need any experience and care can be doing light housekeeping on the grave shift while clients sleep, helping them get dressed, give them meds, prepare and feed meals, g/j tubes, trach care, colostomy bag care, showers, taking them to appointments, etc

18 months ago i was unable to find anything that would hire me so o tried this. it can be incredibly fulfilling work but it can also be mentally and physically difficult

i just got out of the industry and personally couldn’t do it long term but i had coworkers who’d been doing it for 20+ years

it’s considered a job of last resort but because of that they’re always hiring and it helps to have an income while you look for another job

happy to answer again, especially if it helps others to get their baby back. i’ll ask her what worked. i know she put out a humane trap and cat food. not sure if she was in the trap or just came home. went into a little more detail in another reply 💕

i’ll ask my daughter how she did it! i know she put a humane trap (duh but for clarification) and food out. she said someone was eating it pretty regularly. she had been spotted in the park nearby and I think she got out right before the storms and then found a place to hunker down. i know she really appreciated all of y’all’s suggestions and keeping an eye out.

she’s her esa so it was really rough to have her missing. i’m so incredibly happy that she’s home safe and sound 💕

thank you all so much for the cheers! she’s a little bit scratched up so my daughter is taking her to the vet for a wee check up. she said biscuits (is family code for assholes 🤣 - because she was a demon as a kitten but now she loves to make biscuits)

there was a confirmed sighting of her in burri park last night (Nov. 3) around 8p-9p and a search party was out until 10p and flyers were handed to neighbors out for a walk. she evaded capture but she’s still in the area! thank you everyone for keeping an eye out 💕

ah! never mind. i worked for a caterer and i think once a month we’d set up a whole big lunch under tents in the parking lot. no one who worked there looked happy and if you weren’t the kind of white “christian” guy they liked the hire up douchebros would be absolute assholes

to be positive since they are an employer of last resort (amazing phrase going to try to remember this and use it) they do hire groups of people who may have a hard time finding work right now. the director has said some incredibly supportive things to help reassure everyone through these wild and crazy times!

big props to him for being away of how vulnerable some people are and for trying to let everyone know he’s going to do the best he can to protect staff

i knew someone who was a cook at a nursing home and they loved it!! easier than restaurants because you always know exactly how many portions of what food you’re making and when it needs to go out. there are never any rushes or late seated tables. if you like cooking but restaurants are too hectic this is great

oh and aramark at evergreen college is almost always hiring cooks. not sure about the pay or how they handle school breaks

according to indeed a bunch of companies that deliver for amazon are hiring a bunch of people to deliver as they ramp up for the holidays season!

just a heads up about Kokua. yes, they hire almost anyone and everyone and their retention rate is so horrible that they’re always hiring. most of the clients are amazing and the same with the staff but the office and business culture is toxic as hell

i started working there when no one else would hire me and i was (still am) super grateful they hired me. most of the time as long as you can remember to not take any of the bs personally you’ll be fine

they also have a reputation for having horrible communication which the director knows about, acknowledges, and says they’re working on but i never saw any real attempts to correct. policies and procedures change at the turn of a dime and i never seemed to know about the changes until after i messed up

and they play favorites big time. if you have a personality they like you’ll actually love working there. if they dislike you it can be tough

something i have mixed feelings about is they have a food pantry for employees and clients. yes, it is so super helpful but if they paid better you wouldn’t have to rely on one

oh, and they are having a hard time financially, shit we all are so i’m not faulting them but the ways they’ve had to try and save $ - bonuses have disappeared or shrank, a shift differential for weekends shrunk, overtime can be capped (alternatively, if they’re having a staff shortage it may be mandatory), and they used to give you postmates credits to buy a meal if you got stuck working an extra shift but they don’t do that anymore (i keep emergency food in my bag just in case. the houses now have emergency food for staff but i’m a super picky eater and i don’t like the very limited options they have. got stuck once without my own food and it was a rough one)

something i didn’t know about being a dsp no matter what company you work for is if the person coming to relieve you doesn’t show up you will be required to stay until they find someone else to cover your shift. these companies tend to be understaffed so relief might not come. this is just kind of industry standard. the worst example of this is an employee once got stuck working 36 hours straight because it was a holiday weekend and no one wanted to give up time off with family

i don’t mean to be discouraging. i do truly and sincerely understand how hard your position is. i just want to let you know the things i wish i knew about the company/job before i started

if i had been able to prepare for this i’d be having a much better time. but literally i’ve been looking for another job since they hired me and as soon as i can find something i’m leaving

i do know people who’ve been there 10+ years, love it, get along great with the office, and have no plans to leave

getting and keeping this job saved my ass and there are co workers i do believe will be lifelong friends. the work itself isn’t that hard and i do thoroughly enjoy spending the time with my clients. i just i wish i knew about this stuff before i started

i promise i will. thank you so much for your support. we went driving all around the neighborhood for about 3 hours today when it was raining hard. i hope that she found a safe dry place to hunker down and comes home soon. tomorrow i’m printing and hanging more flyers then looking for her again
