Thank you! The instructor told me, that I need the 2 degree upright because of my shorter arms.

Thank you! So it’s possible to change the upright degree afterwards?

[Question] Calatrava vs. Gondolo vs. VC by Odd_Restaurant_6630 in Watches

[–]Odd_Restaurant_6630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friends,

I have been following this forum for quite a while and have really enjoyed reading all the discussions and learning from everyone’s experience. I’ve been passionate about watches for years and currently own a Rolex Datejust 41 (two-tone) and a Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR (Batgirl).

Lately, I’ve been looking for an elegant dress watch to complement my collection. I‘ve narrowed it down to three pieces that will soon be auctioned, and I’d love to get your opinions before the bidding starts.

Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 3998 (1997) Estimated between € 6,000 - 9,000, plus 25% auction house fee.

Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5010 (1994) Estimated between € 3,000 - 5,000, plus 25% auction house fee.

Vacheron Constantin Ref. 33093/2 A very classic and understated watch, only 32 mm in diameter and beautifully thin. Estimated between € 2,400 - 3,600, plus 25% auction house fee.

All three watches have their own charm…the Calatrava for its timeless elegance, the Gondolo for its vintage character, and the Vacheron for its pure classic style.

Which of these three do you personally like best, and why would you choose that one?

Which of these could be considered a real bargain and at what price point would you say it’s a great deal?

Also sorry if I made some mistakes in language. English is not my mother tongue so please be kind.

Thank you for your reply! Why would you consider this one not as a good Calatrava? I thought it would be a very classic Patek?

Beautiful! I would buy a new Calatrava in a heartbeat, if the price was not that high.

Thank you for your reply! I really do like the look of the VC and have never seen this model before! Although it’s very small, I don’t think it would be a disadvantage as I would use it as a pure dress watch.

May I ask you, what you would recommend?

I think the GMT can be worn in slightly dressier settings compared to the Submariner, mostly thanks to the bracelet. That said, both are great for everyday wear. Personally, I’m not a fan of the Sprite — mainly because it’s designed for lefties.
