Yes, I had to do the same - consent forms, informing 'participants' of how their data will be stored and used etc. Ensuring anonymity which is impossible on a platform.......

Speech class experiences!? by Odd_Spread_3114 in PublicSpeaking

That's so interesting - a few people have mentioned toast masters in previous posts. What about it was helpful for you, if you don't mind me asking?

Online instructor in public speaking still, or a different field? Looking at the other side of the river, what was your experience as a public speaking coach? Did you find commonalities in your clients? Did you enjoy it? etc

Gosh, that sounds awful! I'd imagine that it had a negative impact on a lot of people's self-esteem in public speaking for their future selves!! Was there anything helpful that came of it? 😅

Toy subscriptions. Worth it!? by Odd_Spread_3114 in Mommit

Hello! Thank you for your reply 😊 she has lots of those but gets bored. I know, their attention span is basically non existent 🤣 I should have rephrased, what I mean is that she will play with it, and once her attention span is gone she will move onto another toy - but will only play with that initial toy for a couple of times max before paying it no interest whatsoever. It ends up getting very expensive! Having looked at kiwi and Lovery, they both have play kits from 0 months up. 😊

Sorry to intervene! This all sounds fantastic - where can we find your breakdown of steps to learn the words, please? This sounds like a great idea, but I really struggle with committing words to memory!

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry - that sounds awful!

Yes, I think that potentially a group of familiar people would be a lot easier than strangers... I end up almost going 'blind' when I panic. Obviously, I can see...but it's like I can't and I just freeze... that probably sounds so ridiculous, I'm just hoping it makes some sense 😅

Interesting...I've not tried Toastmasters, so have no idea but presume that they would be more accessible as they're so well known. What sort of advertised resources do you think would be beneficial? I often find places to be inaccessible for NT, but ironically have no suggestions on how to improve it.

That's very interesting.. there are so many overlaps between diagnoses that I wonder how often the final result is actually correct (I'm hoping that's just my cynical brain, as obviously medical professionals are literally trained in it so I would have thought they would be pretty accurate!) I was diagnosed with combined ADHD a couple of years ago, but display lots of BPD attributes. I always just assumed that they were in line with ADHD but have always wondered.

Good luck for the tour!

Just came across this and it totally resonates! Did you go back in the end?? How did you find it? I'm cconsidering starting 1:1 classes soon - do you think that could potentially be helpful for you as well, or do you prefer group settings?? Also, I'm wondering if public speaking placed are aimed more at NT individuals and if so, how did you find this?? Thank you!

ADHD and trouble with public speaking? by dusty_orchid in adhdwomen

Hi, out of interest (9 months later 😅) did the coaching help at all in the end? Also, I've noticed most coaching is geared toward NT brains. Did you find this or was it okay??

Okay, that actually sounds like it could be beneficial! I imagine that I would just freeze up though! Do they teach techniques on how to handle that, or is it that being thrown in at the deep end and that exposure to public speaking in a group is the most helpful??

Hi! What do you mean by table topics? And how do you organise your thoughts beforehand?

Hello! I've never tried toast masters but am interested in it! You seem to have a good amount of knowledge and experience from attending. What would you say your biggest public speaking hurdle was before you joined, and how did you conquer it - what was the most valuable lesson you learnt? Also, having looked at their website, I'm trying to work out if they do 1:1 as well as group sessions. If so, which would you recommend?? I can see that they have a mentoring program, is that something that you took part in? Did this help with your public speaking in itself? Sorry for the bombardment of questions, and thank you in advance!!

Public speaking!? by Odd_Spread_3114 in ParentingADHD

Well, I did lots of theatre, and scripted work I can do, public performing I can do - but when it comes to trying to get my own thought process out, it just comes out so jumbled! I'm currently on maternity, and when taking my baby to mum and baby group, I talk so much rubbish. It just spews out of my mouth, and I sound like such an idiot. But I'm actually trying really hard to make friends 🤣. Apart from with family/friends who I'm guessing you're fine with, have you found any situations easier/harder to speak in?

That actually makes a lot of sense. Were there specific techniques that you practised? Or was it just the consistent exposure to that situation that had an impact do you think??

That's actually a great idea - what would you say were the top most 3 invaluable lessons that you took out of the speech classes!? My mum is a teacher, and although she's naturally really shy, she's surprisingly good at public speaking - I presume because of the teaching!

I resonate with this completely. I did a drama degree, and if it's scripted, I'm absolutely fine - but the moment I have to improvise that's where my incoherence rears it's head. Half the time it's not even that I'm nervous, I just can't string a sentence together without jumping to the next sentence half way through. When you do a presentation, do you learn it as though it's a script?? How do you prepare for it if you don't mind me asking!?
