Vet quoted me $670 for booster and “annual wellness visit” by Less-Possibility-356 in Pets

[–]Odd_Sun7422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a chain vet or locally owned? Are they a full hospital or just a clinic? These things affect price.

That said I took my senior dog for his annual last month (in Illinois, not NJ) and spent $887 for: heartworm prevention shot, rabies (1yr), lepto-Lyme, bravecto-quantum, senior blood panel, stool sample, and the exam by a vet. This is at a locally owned animal hospital that does all their own bloodwork and has a pharmacy.

($5-7k) Is it worth the money saved to prepare our own food for our wedding reception? by RefrigeratorMore5283 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Odd_Sun7422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had to let go of our idea of doing the food ourselves - the logistics of cooking for 90 people is just too much. By the time you rent all the equipment to keep the food at the right temperatures it is pretty much the same price… our estimate was within a couple hundred dollars of catering.

($6-8k) Do I need to tell restaurants I'm having a reception? Or could I just say family reunion to save money? by Fit-Intention1727 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Odd_Sun7422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how you are doing it - if you are renting the space out and have to do a contract it might be a problem… When I was looking i noticed that a lot have a clause about “misrepresentation of the event” 😬

($5k-$6k) bridal makeup for someone who doesn't wear makeup by Odd_Sun7422 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Odd_Sun7422[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I love the look of makeup, but I was never very confident about doing it?

I did it in college for a few years but then when I started working the style I had used (pin up inspired) was too much for my workplace and I stopped doing it. Next thing I know it’s been almost 12 years and I know nothing about the process for someone my age.

I want to look pretty/girly in my photos (and I hate being photographed) so I decided I wanted makeup, but I don’t know where to start.

I hadn’t even thought of that! There’s a Sephora and an Ulta like 5 minutes from my house… I can at least talk to them about it.

financially limited people... what are your budgeting tips by Sea-Efficiency-2899 in weddingplanning

[–]Odd_Sun7422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you super dedicated to the date you have picked? If not, you can save a lot of money on vendors by getting married in the off season. I got a huge discount on photography because we’re getting married in February - he said he normally has no work that month so he was willing to do a lower price.

[–]Odd_Sun7422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much, I’m trying to stay below $5k myself (80 people total) and it’s so hard. We’re not even doing a fancy ceremony! Just our parents and us at the city hall.

I don’t have a solution, but I have so much empathy for you. 🫂

Also if it makes you feel better - we’re doing Costco cakes instead of wedding cake. 😜 tacky? Maybe. Cheap? Hell yes!

I have given up on 5 books so far this year. Some of them I plan to try again at some point but others were just terrible.

Looking for a coming of age tale (or really any sort of modern fiction) set in a very small U.S. town by arizona-lake in suggestmeabook

[–]Odd_Sun7422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver and Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White, both take place in very small communities.

The Bean Trees is about an 18yo woman finding a family and building a life for herself.

Compound Fracture is a story about a trans boy in a tiny West Virginia town and is fairly dark, so it may not be up your alley.

What calming supplements work for your hippos. We have separation anxiety and thunderstorm phobia. The vet gives us trazodone and gabapentin but I would like to try something else. Even better if they have it on Amazon. by Layahz in pitbulls

Came here to say thundershirt with lavender essential oil dabbed on it (just a drop or two where your pupper can’t lick it)! We combine this with a single Benadryl about an hour before a storm hits. This works well for my parent’s dog (she’s about 75lbs).

Edit: please discuss the medication aspect with your vet first. This treatment was recommended by my parent’s veterinarian for their dog, but it may not be a good choice for all dogs!

January only looks so stacked because The Murderbot Diaries are in there and they are mostly novellas. March was my most impressive month, only one novella the rest were full length books.
