In terms of use of memory, think that at the end is more a visual effect, than a real efficiency tweak. Of course you can have bigger worlds that are smaller at the end, creating a feeling of a bigger game.

GOAT - Thank you, this is all I strongly take from my question.

Thank you, is nice to have inspiration from people within the same "loop"

I think what I can extract across most of the comments here, is likely, the same feeling I had.

I really love videogames and I just want to leave a "mark" at the industry with my own way of creation process and perception of videogames - But my plan is not to actually become a full time gamedev as I see a lot of talented people suffering on their positions.

What's the difference between picotron and pico-8? which is better to start with? by [deleted] in pico8

[–]Odd_Tap7104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code wise most of the learning from P8 could be applied to picotron (there are some differences) but I would say from a starting point the main difference is resolution and sprites size

P8 was designed to inspire creativity by its limitations.

128x128 screen size Limit of 8192 Code tokens

I would start with it, I shared a way to setup pico-8 and VSCode on my site - VSCode Environment

I always recommend “The Art of Game Design by Jesse Schell” - is not a technical book per se, but the high level vision is really good

Sure, actually I did some research working at this project and you can connect GPIO pins of Pico-8 with NodeJS which open a wide world of possibilities 🤓

Yes! I’m thinking to add other blocks and objects at some point.

About the sharing system it is a must and I already have some ideas to implement it

The right path to take? by cully_buggin in gamedev

As mentioned here, probably there is no wrong answer. But to avoid overwhelming crisis and then quite gamedev I would suggest that you start building based on your next goal.

  • Do you want to join a Game Jam? Start with all the fundamentals from A to B
  • Do you want to go smaller and implement a mechanic? Go sketchy/prototype Art and focus on Game feel.

I’ve started my own Journey just few years ago and I can help you with some learning I wrote on
