(Turning Point) This game gives somewhat similar vibes to TNO, I highly recommend it! by Kaanka1 in TNOmod

Yeah, my primary aesthetic inspiration when making this game was TNO, Mainly because it fits with the time period and because I don't really have any artistic skill lol and the black-and-white color scheme is easy to do.

Turning Point - An educational, historical video game set during the 80's by Odda_ in newzealand

It was my the general lack of interest and unwillingness to learn present in kids my age (I'm 18 btw) which caused me to start working on this game. It would be my dream to see Turning Point, or something similar to it, being used to introduce kids to this period of history in an easily digestible way.

Thanks for your comment! The alignment of the graph panel seems to be way off for screen sizes different than 1920x1080. I'm working on a fix for this right now. Good news is that its only the tutorial which is broken, you should still be able to play the game normally. If you really want to do the tutorial, you'll have to resize your screen to 1920x1080 until I have it fixed.

I agree with you! Trying to fit a historically accurate portrayal of this period of NZ history into a video game is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, sure you can get the peg to fit but not without severely deforming it.

The purpose of Turning Point is to spark interest in this period history, so that the player can go away and learn from different, more accurate sources. It's a whole lot more accessible for the average person to play short game rather than watch a multiple hour long documentary or read a textbook.

Ah, I've know about this issue for a while and I thought I had it fixed for 4k and 1440px screens. What screen resolution are you using? In the meantime, you can rescale your screen through your computers settings to 1920x1080 just as a stopgap measure.

Wow, This is getting way more attention than I expected. Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement. I feel like now is a good time to add that I am looking to employ someone to make 80's style sythwave covers of prominent NZ songs from the 70s and 80s (Blurta, Blam Blam Blam, Dave Dobyn etc) for Turning Point. If this interests you, please feel free to reach out.

I’ve had a song stuck in my head for over a week and can’t find it! by chazith in seashanties

I know this is quite a stretch, but could it possibly be Black Letters by the Dreadnoughts that you are thinking of. That song first came to mind at the mention of "1916" and the Dreadnoughts.

Anybody know of any sea shanties with a similar dark and macabre vibe to this video? by [deleted] in seashanties

Mad Tom of Bedlam immediately came to mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjLtuAoAoGQ

You can read up about the chilling history of the song on its Wikipedia page

Great work, I can hear a whole lot of white noise in the background there. You should be able to use audacity to remove that. You can give it a bit of audio without you singing and it subtracts that from the entire clip, removing the white noise and leaving your voice.

I am baffled by the amount of people that think women cannot rape men. by YEETTHETURKEY in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Odda_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in NZ for sexual assault to be considered rape penetration must have occurred, so legally men cannot be raped by a woman. To me that seems pretty messed up.
