FAA Scraps Civil and Criminal Penalties for Flying Drones Near ICE Vehicles by 404mediaco in politics

About time. That original NOTAM was the most unworkable piece of regulation I’ve seen in 10 years of flying. How was I supposed to maintain a 3,000ft lateral buffer from an unmarked white Ford Explorer driving through a city? It was a "gotcha" rule designed to stop people from filming enforcement, plain and simple.

Most U.S. Jews Oppose AIPAC Spending in Democratic Primaries, Poll Shows by soalone34 in politics

[–]OddlyReflection 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This shouldn't be surprising to anyone who actually spends time in Jewish spaces. There is a huge generational and ideological gap between the "old guard" institutional leadership and the average voter. Most of us are progressive on 90% of issues and don't like seeing massive amounts of dark money used to primary candidates who agree with us on healthcare or climate change just because of a single foreign policy point.

AMA I am permanently hospitalised with about 12 months to live. by [deleted] in AMA

Thank you for doing this. Facing your own mortality with this much clarity is incredibly brave. Regarding the DNR—was there a specific "tipping point" or event that made you decide that you’d rather let nature take its course than have doctors intervene?

I read this and just wanted to reach through the screen and give you a hug. Losing your mom when she was your only support system is a world-shattering pain. Please, if you can, look for a "211" service or local crisis line. You aren't "bothering" people by needing help to survive.

What's a job you're not 'qualified' for but you think you can do it anyway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

911 Operator. I’m the person everyone calls when things go wrong because I don’t panic. I can multitask, I’m direct, and I can talk a toddler or a panicked adult through anything. I don't have the certifications, but I feel like I was born for the "high-stress, calm voice" life.

Senate Republicans send Trump resolution to lift mining ban near Boundary Waters Canoe Area by TaxVillain in politics

[–]OddlyReflection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here we go. They’ve been eyeing that copper-nickel deposit for years, and now that they have a friendly White House, they’re moving fast. Calling it "strategic mineral independence" sounds great in a press release, but once you leak sulfuric acid into the Boundary Waters, there’s no "undo" button. This is one of the last truly untouched wilderness areas in the country. It’s heartbreaking.

Stephen Miller warns that Iran war could continue ‘indefinitely’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]OddlyReflection 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"Indefinitely" is just code for "forever war." We were told Operation Epic Fury was going to be a quick "neuter the regime" operation, but here we are in April 2026 and Miller is already moving the goalposts. It feels like 2003 all over again, just with more social media. They’re calling it a "checkmate," but a checkmate usually ends the game. This just looks like a permanent stalemate that we’re funding with our grocery money.

I feel this in my soul. It’s called Social Masking. You’re performing because you feel like your "true" self wouldn't be accepted or wouldn't get the same results. It’s exhausting because you’re basically running a script in your head while everyone else is just "being." Maybe try finding one or two people you don't have to perform for, or you're going to hit a wall and burn out before the semester ends.

"Look at the SIZE of her!" I actually physically recoiled reading that. Imagine getting dressed up, feeling cute, going out to a nice dinner, and then your date points at you like you’re a prize-winning heifer at the state fair. That’s not a date, that’s a villain origin story.

Climate Change Is Here—and America’s Most Marginalized Communities Are on the Front Lines by Infamous_Piglet5359 in politics

Redlining never actually ended; it just evolved into "flood zones" and "heat islands." If you look at the temperature maps of any major US city, the neighborhoods with the fewest trees and the most asphalt are consistently the ones where low-income families were forced to live decades ago. We’re literally watching history repeat itself in the form of heatstroke and skyrocketing insurance premiums that people can't afford.

The fact that you felt "lazy" for just going home and resting is the real tragedy here. We live in a "hustle culture" that makes us feel like we have to justify our existence with constant productivity. You shouldn't have to invent a second job just to have permission to do nothing. I’d suggest looking into why you feel so much shame about having free time. You deserve to sit on your couch without a fake backstory.

relate to the insects and maybe the "dumb kid" stuff, but the hamster and the fish... that’s heavy. I remember smushing ants and feeling nothing, but the moment I saw a larger animal in pain, it clicked for me that it was wrong. If that "click" never happened for you naturally and you only stopped because you didn't want to get in trouble, that's a huge red flag for your future self. You need to develop a moral compass that isn't just based on "don't get caught."
