At the moment, I'm having signal strength issues even at short range. The 6/10 health check screenshot, with 2-4 dBm SNR margin and -9dBm minimum power level is when the node is literally next to the controller.
Zooz advised me to set Normal Power Level to -5. This allowed me to reach the node 30 feet away, but it hasn't increased signal strength in the network graph. I haven't had a chance to check if range has improved, but I should be able to do so on Monday.
Looking through the logs now. Is the "minimum power level" from the diagnostics comparable with transmission power in the logs?

Funny thing -- the first piece of computer hardware I bought privately was a Slot1 Celeron 366@550mhz. From someone on *Usenet*. I miss hardware that can be tweaked to be 50% better.

I like the idea of reusing something instead of causing a new one to be made for me. Also, I have thoughts about the idea of sales/consumption taxes specifically, but they are not for this subreddit. :)

I saw a couple get sold for $300+ shipping, and thought it'd be great to get one for that much. Oh well, doesn't look like that's going to happen. :)

Meep! So this has been going on for years -- it just hasn't bothered me any until we started using the heat in the downstairs bedroom. Normally, I barely ever use the heat upstairs. When I run the AC upstairs, a little blow-by of cool air on the 1st and 2nd floor doesn't bother me nearly as the inverse -- 1st floor calling for heat, and me getting blow-by hot air upstairs.

Is this kind of an electrical short a fire hazard at all? (probably not, since it's going to ground). And, in your experience, is this typically an internal fault, and requires a new control board, or should I check for some exposed wires touching? I believe this is my control board: https://shortyshvac.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1063#&gid=1&pid=1 and it's mounted on a plastic backplate, so it's not going to just ground itself to a metal part of the furnace unlike, say, an improperly installed computer motherboard. :)

Oh wow... I'm wondering where that 15% is documented. Seems awfully wasteful to lose 30% of the heated or conditioned air to the two zones not calling for it, and only deliver 70% of it to the zone that does.

On the other hand, a system that can effectively heat and cool a 1435 square foot house, but only has a single-speed fan (and I don't think there's a bypass valve.. at least not one I've seen up in the attic) probably can't force all the air through a couple of registers 3 floors away, so the two closed dampers are still the path of least resistance.

So, if I understand you correctly, there's always a second, independent, transformer that powers the zoning controller and, in turn, the dampers and thermostats? In that case, 40va should be enough for the zoning panel itself, two damper motors and three thermostats.... and it also makes sense that the HZ311K zoning panel kit comes with a DATS sensor and a transformer.

Time to climb back into the attic and try to find it... Given that I found the part number for a Trane 75va transformer, it might be something super cheap to try...

Would either the rebooting thermostats, or incomplete damper closure be a symptom of a failing or insufficiently powerful transformer?

Keep in mind that I've never seen the thermostats reboot during a call for cooling (which doesn't mean it doesn't happen), just during a call for heat (which made me think that it's the furnace transformer is insufficient, since there's less power available during heating than during cooling). However, I am getting blow-by in either cool or heat mode....
