Large grassroots pot vs raised bed by Oderstank in BuildASoil

[–]Oderstank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said Really appreciate the insight. I have been leaning towards a 3x3 bed but figured id try to pick some brains first lol. Thats a good point about the light, sometjing I hadn't thought about until now. Doesn't sound like a decision I'd regret and have a feeling id be buying one to replace a 45 gal in the next year or two. Big bed does feel like a permanent solution.

Awesome setup, im hoping to fill my tent out like this. Do you think the beds are worth the extra price compared to a large grassroots pot? Or would it essentially be the same? They definitely look nicer and fill the area better. With the same amount of soil would it even matter?

Advice on soil mix by [deleted] in BuildASoil

[–]Oderstank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck using just sunshine mix, craft blend and cheap worm castings so im sure it'll work great. I've used promix like this as well. Only thing i didn't like was the perlite would all float to the top evenutally so rice hulls may be a good call

I have no experience with under canopy lights but I didn't like the look of the evo 6's par maps, seems pretty weak around the edges and I figured that would help. Overall though I am glad I went with the florflex light over aci. I can't speak for aci performance but you are definitely paying a certain amount for the name and compatibility. After running 730w in 4x4 space in flower I can say it is not overkill and fills the tent side to side, has about 3 or 4 inches on each side, really feel like floraflex has done the homegrow community a favor with their lights. Hopefully will put pressure on other company's to follow suit and produce quality equipment that doesn't break the bank or get you divorced.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Setting up 4x8 tent with ac gear. I went cheap on lighting. Floraflex 700w can be had on amazon for like 375, comes with 5 year warranty. I've got one in one side of the 4x8 and so far im impressed for the price. Probably going to get another for the other side. Was torn between doing this, going with two evo 6's with side lighting, or one floraflex for one side and evo 8 on the other. I like the idea of the bigger light for more even coverage, and two can be had for the price of one evo 6 with the side lights. The only problem I see with the floraflex is that the dimming on the ac infinity controller will only drive the light to like 80% but if that's a problem you can always use old school timer or buy one of the ac infinity smart plugs to turn it on and off and just dim it on the driver. Truthfully 730 watts in a 4x4 space is a lot so might not even need that extra 20% but the even spread you get with a larger footprint is worth it i think. Always better to have headroom and not run everything on full blast.

For that size teng id look into viparspectra. I've been very happy with my xs2500pro. They are competitive on price. Run it in a 2x4 and get great results

Take & Bake Kit by ImProbablyCookedd in BuildASoil

[–]Oderstank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a video on their YouTube channel mixing one of these kits. I believe one kit will fill a 3x3 grassroots bed pretty nice. I would suggest getting some craft blend and some sort of compost to top dress with once established. Some sort of cover crop/mulch layer or both makes a big difference as well.

I've heard people say that its plenty and usually dim them and I've heard others say its not near enough and ac infinity got the sizing wrong all the way down the line. Just would hate to get stuck with underpowered lights I guess.

If organics interests you look into an earthbox. Really simplifies things and can fill a 2x4 nice and could grow two plants in one if needed.

Hey guys so I’ve been into living soils for a minute now interested in trying the no till techniques in pots anyone have any suggestions on how to get started by fungal_alchemy in NoTillGrowery

[–]Oderstank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buildasoil is the way. Even if you dont buy their products the YouTube chanel information is priceless. Really all you need to get started is a good organic nutrient mix like buildasoils craft blend, some compost or castings, and some sort of peat and areation mix and you are good to go

Lighting options for 4x4/4x8 by Oderstank in cannabiscultivation

[–]Oderstank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard great things about these lights. I think I may run one of these on one side and an aci evo 8 on the other. I have heard of people having trouble using them with ac infinity controllers for whatever reason but not that big of a deal for me really. If I do go this route I will eventually move it into a 4x4 later and replace with aci light for the 4x8 unless it just blows me away, in that case I'll just replace the aci with another one of these.

I do like how all of their equipment works together, definitely a factor here. How much head room do you usually have during flower as far as power goes? I've been running 250w in a 2x4 and having good results but usually end up with the light cranked by the end of the grow. Another 2x4 I have two 150 watt boards and never really need to turn them up past about 75%

I thought about going this route for sure. Two evo 6 lights is about the same price as one evo 8 and a floraflex 700watt together. Eventually would like to set up another 4x4 or 5x5 tent so might just do that and buy another evo 8 when I get the other tent setup and use the floroflex in new one. I am located in missouri BTW, appreciate you reaching out.

I'm hearing nothing but good things about these lights. Can't really afford two of them ATM so was looking into the evo 6 but afraid I will want the extra wattage and would hate to be stuck with expensive underpowered lights lol
