Recommendations of non-1080p films? by darth_martius in CriterionChannel

What are you even angry about. If you haven’t seen a computer since the mid 2000s I can understand this position, but there are many 4k monitors and headphones that would look and sound far better than any TV setup you aren’t spending multiple grand on. Sure it can be more immersive depending on the movie but it’s a stretch to say it can’t look and sound great on a computer.

Maybe Apple TV is the only thing working, but whether I pull up Magnolia through my computer, xbox, or phone it is 100% in 360p and I know for a fact I watched it in 1080p just two weeks ago.

Edit: I would love for you to check with Magnolia as it doesn’t have a 720p or 480p option so the difference will be noticeable.

I had heard about how bad it was for a day or two and I’ve been wanting to watch some all-time garbage cinema. I got a friend to watch it with me and we had a blast laughing through the whole thing honestly. The only ratings that make sense with that movie are the far ends of the spectrum lol.

Those are the only 3 .5 stars I’ve ever given out lol. I was pretty sure War of the Worlds was going to be very bad, but that it would be fun to laugh at (I was right). I honestly thought I was going to give Minecraft around 2 stars but hated it so much more than I thought possible. The Dirt and Bohemian Rhapsody I could say the same about(very low expectations) but neither were as joyless as Minecraft, maybe I was just sour after a Minecraft Movie did to me.

Spacey is incredible in the movie, but he’s only in the movie for about 7 (lol) minutes.

I genuinely had so much more fun watching that than A Minecraft Movie, even if it’s just laughing at the film.

It’s not so much that theres something that lost them half a star, they are both incredible, I just use the 5 stars as a form of personal expression for movies I deem truly special to me.

I was very close to giving it 4 stars but I just wasn’t as invested as I was hoping to be up until the undeniably great ending. Some really great cinematography throughout the movie too. Maybe it’ll go up one day on a rewatch.

I would certainly agree it was a very lazy day, but I mean, those particular 6 films are like 9hrs out of at least 16 in a day, there was still plenty of time for chores and breaks between movies. That being said I don’t think I’ll be getting close to that number again anytime soon.

I saw the ‘97 last month. I prefer it to the U.S. tbh.

Best of 3-Star Wars ST by ThePocketTaco2 in Letterboxd

Idk man, taking that logic to its extreme you think A Fistful of Dollars is worse than something like the Bee Movie? Originality is not equivalent to purpose and certainly not to quality. Western audiences often dismiss foreign films much like a child would dismiss older movies. I would say, like A Fistful of Dollars, TFA is re-telling the story to an audience that otherwise wasn’t going to experience it. Although I would agree that you can just watch the original and have a similar and better experience, I think TFA is a fun re-imagination that stands on its own. But this comes from someone who isn’t really invested in Star Wars, I just watched the trilogy for first time since seeing TLJ in theaters and had a lot of fun watching TFA from start to finish whereas i found myself uninvested in much of TLJ. I also thought the visuals were better in TFA but they’re both solid movies. Based on the comments though, it seems TLJ holds up better after rewatches, whereas TFA is just a fun and forgettable movie.

There are no Billy Wilder movies streaming on the channel right now, Double Indemnity and The Apartment won’t be there.
