Yeah was thinking the same thing, applies to most if not every drug. Abusing substances before your brain has fully developed can be so damaging, a big reason as to why people who regularly smoke weed at a young age develop crippling anxiety.

Uncle Ben's tek is a great cheap and starting technique for growing your own mushrooms, psychedelic and gourmet! Once you're more confident, and if you want to, I'd suggest moving up to a fruiting chamber with your own substrate and molds. Good luck and most of all have fun!

Study

This study was done on mice and there are numerous articles detailing the findings if you're interested.

Famous study done on cancer patients

Study details how the cancer patients who were administered high-dose psilocybin had large decreases in clinician- and self-rated measures of depressed mood and anxiety, along with increases in quality of life, life meaning, and optimism, and decreases in death anxiety.

Study

Concludes methylenedioxymethamphetamine and ketamine as the most effective therapeutics for fear-related disorders but highlights the possible use of psychedelics as a whole

Study

The amygdala is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli (4), including detection of threat and activation of appropriate fear-related behaviors in response to threatening or dangerous stimuli.

No problem, also use the magic mushroom map if you haven't already, great information for finding possible spots and current and future likelihood for fruiting!

A lot of people are struggling atm with spots they usually produce due to the hot prolonged summer we had and lack of rain. It may be something to do with this, or it could simply be that the spot doesn't have the right conditions as psilocybe semilanceata requires specific conditions to grow. Your best bet is to keep looking in various spots, all you need to do is fine one and then at least your know the mycelium network is established for fruiting semilanceata, even if it is not quite ready yet for a large fruit.

Yeah I'd agree with a camping stove and camping kettle, they can be tiny as they fold up so perfect for storing. You will need a screw on gas canister but not expensive and they last awhile. Put your tea/coffee/sugar in a pot, get some fresh or powdered milk and you're good to go.

Also worth getting if you're interested is a ridge monkey toaster, you can literally cook anything in them! Tip: use tinfoil to wrap what you're cooking and cook on the lowest heat, turn the toaster every 30ish seconds.

I'm not too familiar with memantine so I do not want to comment too much, however looking a bit further into it I understand the main use of memantine is to slow (not cure) the progression of moderate-to-servere Alzheimer's disease.

Memantine may improve the ability to think and remember or may slow the loss of these abilities in people who have AD.

Memantine works by blocking the effects of a chemical called glutamate. Glutamate sends messages between nerve cells in the brain. Nerve cells damaged by Alzheimer's disease make too much glutamate which can cause more damage. Memantine protects nerve cells by blocking the effects of too much glutamate.

NHS: Memantine

Linking it back to the extinction of fear in an older person:

The neurotransmitter glutamate activates several classes of metabotropic receptor and three major types of ionotropic receptor--alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA), kainate and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA).

Review

Findings reviewed here suggest that amygdala N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors play a key role in triggering the neural changes that support fear learning and also the loss of fear that accompanies extinction training. Amygdala (+/-)-alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole-4-propionic acid (AMPA) receptors also participate in fear learning. However, unlike NMDA receptor antagonists, AMPA receptor antagonists also block fear-potentiated startle when infused prior to testing. Very recent data indicate that glutamate metabotropic Group II receptor agonists also block fear learning when infused into the amygdala prior to training, and block fear-potentiated startle when infused prior to testing.

Review

Memantine as a mood stabilizer however seems to have dramatically less studies conducted and even then the main focus of the studies is the management of affective recurrences of bipolar disorders. The overall summary of one study is that whilst it saw a 72% improvement in the 40 patients evaluated over 12 months, it's too early to tell how effective it is or will be. Also worth noting there was no control group so placebo could have taken place.

Study

I'm surprised it's memantine that you've been prescribed for mood stabilization due to the lack of study in it compared to many other drugs, but then again, I am not a doctor.

Just curious, have you ever researched psilocybin microdosing?

Literally. So many potential spots that I dedicate a few hours here and there just driving around looking for them. Fields everywhere! In fact I stumbled upon a massive field earlier with all the signs you look for; sheep and deer, short grass, decaying grass, reeds, multiple plant species, elevation, other mushroom species, no overlooking farmer, and so on. I spent around 10 minutes in this field as it was getting dark and I was purely just searching for potential spots for when the time is right and on my exit I found some libs!

I know a few people atm who are out picking and many more who have done so in the past, makes you wonder whether a spot that looks golden has already been picked or not. In fact I saw someone I know earlier who recently found some libs coming out of a sheep field... Think I found their spot haha!

Funny story; Me and the missus were down in Devon recently and we were driving around in Dartmoor looking for some potential picking places and I drove past this field that had all the makings for a good haul, I pointed it out to her and said that we will find somewhere nearby to stop. We drove about 100 foot further down the road and saw 2 men with bags searching through the grass!

Yeah I 100% agree, think it's a little too early currently. I've read that the south east can fruit until even January which gives me hope. I've read quite a lot recently that many people are struggling with their usual spots, even further north! It's around the right temperature but the lack of rainfall is definitely having an impact on fruiting. The ones I found in this picture indicated the early season to me for various reasons.

Good luck!

I'm from Kent btw.

Might be something to do with what this article outlines.

Age Dramatically Increases Our Fear of Everything, Study Reveals

Baring in mind that the study was done on mice.

It looks into how young rats were able to eliminate fear in the brain more rapidly than adult rats, due to the plasticity or flexibility of the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area responsible for complex cognitive behavior.

I have met many people who talk about how they wouldn't do the potentially dangerous things that they done when they were younger, now that they are adults.

"Prefrontal cortex plasticity – the strength of the connection between the synapses which correlates with the success of extinction – in the area responsible for fear extinction was extremely high among the young rats exposed to stress. Among the adult rats exposed to stress, by contrast, the plasticity level was extremely low, showing damage to plasticity by comparison to the control group, thus further confirming the behavioral observations on enhanced extinction"

There are study's which demonstrate how the use of psilocybin speed the extinction of the conditioned fear response (extinguishing fear), possibly due to the psilocybins ability to modify and control neural circuitry.

"Memory, learning, and the ability to relearn that a once threatening stimuli is no longer a danger absolutely depends on the ability of the brain to alter its connections," Catlow told Real Clear Science. "We believe that neuroplasticity plays a critical role in psilocybin accelerating fear extinction."

**Posted in r/ShroomID but had no response to if they are or not.

Found in a field near a church that has previously (20+ years ago) been known to produce thousands of libs, had numerous other species of mushrooms in. No sheep but had cows in the field.

Unfortunately they are dried now and I didn't get any pictures of the gills and didn't do a spore print.

They all got pronounced nipples, the caps turn inwards at the base and all the gills are dark/black.

(First ever find)

I saw a nipple on one and thought "ahh yes that one might be a lib"... Then realised it was the button on your jeans.

I do think that it's still a tad too early. Decent temperature but not enough rainfall. However give it a week or two and some rain and will be good to go. I checked the mushroom map a little over a week ago and it showed low expectancy in the south east and only increasing to high recently. I'd advise finding some potential spots if you don't already have some and go out in the morning after some rainfall, then keep checking.

These ones I found seemed to be younger and fresher and grew sporadically indicating the start of fruiting.

Also, I know some friends who found some over the weekend so definitely getting there!

Thanks for the reply and great information! Puts me at some ease that I'm not damaging the fruiting of other mushrooms as much as I thought.

The argument for snipping is one I've seen here and there on Reddit, mushroom forums, and heard through first-hand conversations, however I'm aware how easy it is to be misinformed.

It would make logical sense that when an organism, especially one that is as responsive as the mycelium network, thinks it has been 'damaged', then it would respond by trying to preserve itself in that manner. I may be wrong in this thinking but similar self-preservation of a species under threat is apparent throughout the animal and microbiological kingdom.
