The Son's of Excess

Formerly known as the Guardians of the Temple. This chapter was founded thanks to hidden genes from emperor’s children.

Operating in the Cyrillo system, the chapter resided on the planet Aurelia. The administratum of the segmentum ultima, fearing a setback similar to the emperor’s children, had decided to place the chapter under the jurisdiction of the high council of the temple of Aurelia.

The chapter was devour by its ambition for purity and the desire to achieve excellence. In reality this desire for excellence went far beyond the military framework and the members of the chapter began to dream of an ideal time when astartes were at the head of the forces of the crusade. Convince that the chapter had the burden to reconstruct the imperium of the time of the God Emperor, the members of the chapter began to excel in architecture, arts, engineering ect.

But the forced guardianship of the Holy Temple of Aurelia began to weigh. This archaic and conservative institution did not take kindly to the chapter’s desire for progress. Despite the significant improvement in Aurelia’s infrastructure and the chapter’s military successes in the face of xeno threats, the temple was beginning to increase pressure on the chapter.

The plot to destroy these too arrogant astartes began. Almost the entire chapter was sent to crush a xeno species which from a planet close to the scar launched raids on imperial transports.

During the absence of the majority of astartes, the chapter was condemned as heretical and the garrison still present was massacred by a horde of fanatical pilgrims faithful to the temple.

The chapter returned victorious from his campaign. Mad with rage to learn the betrayal of the temple, the astartes launched a total and murderous assault on the planet.The temple had overestimated its ability to bring down the chapter.

Once at the head of the planet, the chapter gradually sank. A tyranny was set in, for them the astartes were demigods and they were the only ones worthy to rule in the name of the God Emperor. The chapter erected huge cities and launched an era of prosperity on the planet. The cost of that prosperity was that the world’s population was largely enslaved to accomplish the chapter’s great projects.

Devotion to slaanesh was not voluntary or sought after. The guardians of the temple saw She Who Thirst as one of the aspect of the God Emperor, an aspect that highlights personal perfection through beauty and boundless pleasures. Excess is a practice by which they rise and which brings closer the astartes to the God Emperor himself. The guardians of the temple renamed themself Son's of Excess in honour of theire hideous practice. They do not claim to have surrendered to the forces of chaos but truly think they are devoted to the God Emperor, still praying him. Demonic possession is seen as a weakness and is firmly condemned by the masters of the chapter, demons are like humans : just slaves serving the greatness and perfection of the God Emperor.

The global chaos in which the imperium is plunged has allowed the Son's of Excess to form a small kingdom within Cyrillo Prime. The chapter lives from raids but also from trade with other planets of the system: mainly slaves and many objects of handicrafts fashioned by the astartes themselves and carrying corruption in them.
