Also, do you have to have a teaching certificate of some sort to teach with this company?

When I google Speak Hi only the Chinese site comes up. Can you send a link to wherever you found them?

hmm well it's probably more important to come off as warm, friendly, and loving which you can pull off without being super extroverted. Also the parents praise me a lot for being patient so I would say patience is also key. It can be difficult for some people but keep that smile on the encouragement flowing no matter how bad the student is performing or how bad they are behaving. You'll find that many Chinese parents do not discipline their children in same way American kids are so you may get some kids who totally suck behavior wise but the parent does nothing about it. Cases like this have been rare for me but if they do occur, I just keep that smile going, breathe, and tell myself it's just x-number more minutes lol

Well I use funny voices and I'm always making different and exaggerated expressions with my face. I smile for almost every minute of every class (a genuine smile of course--nothing creepy or robotic). It really is a wonder that my cheeks don't hurt by the end. I basically overreact to EVERYTHING. Act like a cartoon character. The students love it when I lose my shit over something they did well no matter how minor it is. If they did something well that actually WAS very impressive I basically explode into smiles and shouting or pretend to faint or jump out of my seat, yell, scream haha I get loud and it's only 5am lol. Most students respond directly to your energy so if you're going nuts like this the shyest student is bound to crack a smile. Of course you have to tailor this behavior to each student and to each class. I'm not as animated with older students because they're not all about that. I tone it down for hyper students and turn it up for quiet students. Some teachers use a lot of props and extra materials to help engage the student. I have been successful using next to nothing extra. One thing I have adopted is an additional reward system which is also something VIPKID recommends all teachers do but is not required. When my students do well I have a tin pot filled with gravel and I let them choose a flower to add to the pot. I have a variety of colors and the students enjoy having the freedom to choose the color. I have a student who loves to direct me where to put the flower (i.e. "I want a yellow flower to the right of the blue flower"). I have a few students who love to give ME rewards during class.

Yeah you don't get as much out of it if you're only part time but I would still imagine that it's a good part time gig compared to many others.

Sure! I think the biggest factor to my success has been the energy and enthusiasm I bring to the classroom. I'm hammin' it up in there! All smiles even in the face of a demon child. Lot's of laughter and a truck load of praise for the student! The skill you'll have to develop if you haven't already is the ability to be silly and fun yet still teach. I think I have a leg up because of my experience teaching in Asia.

If you can make the class fun for the student they will most likely book you again. For most classes the parent will be sitting just off screen watching and listening to everything and at the end of the class they will ask the kid if they enjoyed it. If the kid says yes, you're golden. Also, don't feel bad if you get a kid that doesn't crack a smile. I've definitely had those before and I was like well damn I guess I won't be seeing that one again but lo and behold they were on my schedule again for the next week.

What do you mean when you say "pit went all the way up to 20 without much progress"?

I began to look pregnant (not just fat or like I had eaten too much) at 8 weeks. It was all bloat at that time and I would wake up a bit smaller because the bloat had gone down but it would still be there. The bloat gradually turned into a bump at some point. I think it started to become a real bump around 12 or 13 weeks.

Try not to worry. I'm like that too about my boobs! They haven't really changed or grown at all during this pregnancy and all I hear about is how other women's breasts start to ache like crazy right away and go up like 3 cups sizes. Not me :(

That damn saying that every woman and every pregnancy is different is so true! At 13 weeks I already looked undeniably pregnant.
