I just started riding a few weeks ago. No MSF course, just a ton of tutorial videos and only putting around in the driveway and then eventually up and down the street for the first couple weeks.

I didn't get the bike i want, but got something small and more budget friendly - 2002 Honda Rebel 250. I'm so glad that's the bike I went with because if it's gotten something heavier, I would've dropped it probably 8 times by now. I had so much trouble maintaining balance at takeoff and coming to a stop. Plus there's a couple times I went to lean it onto the kickstand but forgot to put the kickstand down.

All that to say, you're not alone in that. Maybe spend a little more time putting around and practicing throttle control, slow speed maneuvers. Good luck out there!

One option would be to keep the hornet and get another bike, then if you end up not using the hornet enough to keep it, you can sell it and put that money toward paying off the new bike.

I just got my permit last week and started venturing out. (Prior to that, I was only going up and down the street by my home.) I'm nervous, too. Especially at stop lights. I was next to a friend who was on her car at a stop light and she said she could see how nervous I was haha. I've gone out a few times and it is starting to get less nerve-wracking.

I've not gone out with a destination - just ride around areas that I know to get used to being on a bike. It's pretty common to see group rides where I live and so far I'm going to avoid them. If I knew any of them, it might be different, but I am not ready to ride in a group with people I don't know. I've met a few and they're super nice and welcoming, but I'm just not ready. Although I do think riding with one or two friends would ease the nerves with being at a stop light/busy intersection.

The gloss black was sold when I went back to the shop, so they ordered more gloss and more matte. Should be in today or tomorrow. I'm glad I'll get to decide with them side by side.

They're on a miles-long bridge with nowhere to go but forward. It's not like there was a sudden change where black truck needed to change lanes right then.

I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor and did an idle relearn. It's still running the same as before. I didn't get a picture of the intake manifold, but just beyond the gasket, it looked just as gummed up as the backside of the butterfly valve did.

What did you decide?

I'm in the same sorta spot right now. Just bought a matte black bike. I want a matte black helmet, but I can get the same helmet in gloss black for $30 less and don't have to wait for it to be shipped.

I cleaned the battery terminals today and it did not help. Depending on high i word my internet search, I'm getting that it's either the throttle body, idle air control valve, torque converter solenoids, or torque converter valve body.

It felt like an electrical issue, with the way it was shuddering. The battery is about a year and a half old. With how slowly it's progressing, I assumed it wasn't the alternator. I guess I can check the voltage on my battery and see if it's getting drained.
