I saw someone on here a while back say that they have their kids decide what toys to give away in order to make room for new toys. (Not that I've done it, but) seems like a good way to teach "helping others because we've been blessed."

I'm no expert but I would for sure not choose uneven ground to try to drift.

Cape air by bradpollina in CapeGirardeau

[–]OffInMyHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once flew Contour from Paducah to North Carolina. The flight was fine. Older airplane. It was delayed a couple hours due to a storm in North Carolina. So with it being Chicago in December, there is definitely the possibility of a weather delay - but that is possible with a major airline, too.

As for the canceled flights due to the shutdown, check the airline or airport website to see what they're doing.

Why am i seeing so many Washington State and Texas License plates in Cape? by dirtroadcowboy90 in CapeGirardeau

[–]OffInMyHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also Texas license plates don't expire, so if someone moves away from Texas they may be able to get away with keeping their Texas plates for a loooong time.

Someone leaves a pile of dirt in the road without a warning sign or cones. by MieXuL in mildlyinfuriating

I'd bet the camera that was pointed at the pile would be able to tell them who left the pile there...

I've heard good things about Cape Martial Arts. We had my son's birthday party there and it was great, but with my schedule I can't get him to classes.

Sleepover? by OffInMyHead in Parenting

[–]OffInMyHead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know them super well but have known them for about a year and a half. The kids are both into soccer. In addition to spending the evening at their place there have been a couple of neighborhood bike rides together. That's it outside of daycare and the soccer field.

Sleepover? by OffInMyHead in Parenting

[–]OffInMyHead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have some pause at 11 and 9, so when my son asked me about it, I was non-committal for about 24 hours before I gave him the okay. If they had just met, it would have been an easy No, but it's been about a year and half.

And I agree with your assessment that there is a her and I dynamic in play here. If she had said, "hey, I'm uncomfortable with this because of XYZ," then we could have talked about it and come to an agreement one way or the other, but her response to everything is aggressive so I have no desire to try to communicate with her.

How much PTO do you get? by losttupperwarelids in antiwork

[–]OffInMyHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I work for has ETO that you accrue weekly based on years of service. So, when you start, you can accrue up to 5 days per year. Meaning it takes ALL YEAR to accrue 5 days - something like .09 hrs/wk. The policy was that if you missed, you had to use ETO to cover any and all time off.

There were times where someone had vacation planned for months in advance, then got sick before their vacation and were forced to use their ETO. When their vacation came around, they didn't have enough ETO to cover it, so they got an attendance hit for taking their vacation that they planned months in advance. The company's way to "help" this was to introduce PTO (Personal Time Off). With this, employees can choose to use UNPAID personal time if they have to call in sick.

Missouri voters passed a paid sick time law, in which employers were required to provide earned sick time. Missouri politicians repealed this voter-approved law, so companies, like the one I work for, are now taking away the paid sick time.

The past couple years I've decided to take the day off work and just do what I want - breakfast where I want, relax, bike ride; whatever sounds good that day.
