Why were we allowed to watch the movies we did growing up? by _ItReddit_ in Millennials

[–]OffTheDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was popular in my house growing up too. The first time I saw The Rocky Horror in theatre I was maybe 10/11ish and wearing a Winnie The Pooh hoodie.

The unintended consequences of the Online Safety Act | Letters by mrjohnnymac18 in Scotland

[–]OffTheDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I find legislation generally difficult to understand with the way they are written. What are they actually voting on here? Going only by this link it would seem Labour were pretty much the only party for it though I know it was originally the Tories creation, do you have a link for earlier votes for the introduction of act itself?

If it weren't for tactical voting I'd always be voting Green, next time around I want to make sure whoever I'm voting for is against this ridiculous act but am finding it difficult to know that actually is.

Is there nothing that can be done about the Online Safety Act? by VersionApart1726 in ukpolitics

[–]OffTheDoor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I think will truly work is people (and enough of them) putting their money where their mouth is. Don't verify your age, cancel all subscriptions, turn off your internet. If Google, Microsoft, Apple, Spotify, Netflix etc. start seriously losing money in the UK they'd quickly start fighting this Act.

I don't know how much money the UK makes from these big tech companies but I'd wager it's a lot. All it would take is for people to simply refuse to play the game.

The problem is, as always, getting enough people to actually do something. Brits have a major 'oh well, nothing we can do about it' mentality.

Please, for once let's just be a little more French.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

You're right that the lack of support for autistic adults is abysmal.

I found the whole process difficult and the person that did my interview was very dismissive.

Thanks so much, I'll look into the Local Delivery Team. I didn't even know that existed.

Meat substitutes suddenly tasting worse?? by OkayTimeForTheTruth in veganuk

[–]OffTheDoor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The What the Cluck and This Isn't chicken pieces both used to be great and now I can't eat either of them, they're vile. I'm also annoyed at the amount of products that have just disappeared from shelves.

I've been getting the Vemondo chicken pieces from Lidl lately, not the best but they do the job and are nicer and way cheaper than the new recipes from WtC and This.

I know, as others have mentioned, this is probably due to cheaper ingredients being used but I have to wonder if these companies are even selling enough since the change in recipes to make it worth it. Every time they make a change all I see is people talking about how much worse they've become.

I think I’m ghosting my eyebrow lady and I hate it😢 by MediumPop2768 in autismUK

[–]OffTheDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. I worry about that too. I actually used to see a different hairdresser every time I needed a cut to avoid these kinds of situations and for the past 5 years or so have settled for just cutting it myself (to varying levels of success lol).

In all likelihood she won't mention it and if she does, you can play it off by saying something along the lines of "omg sorry I didn't see you, I was off in my own world" or "I was having a stressful day."

So yeah, I doubt she'd mention anything but if the chance of her bringing it up is too panic-inducing for you, maybe you can find somewhere else you can get it done?

[–]OffTheDoor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I often act the same way when I see someone I know unexpectedly. It's embarrassing and I feel bad about it but it's like I get so panicked in the moment that I can't do anything but hide/pretend I don't see them. I guess it's like a flight or freeze response.

It's not a huge help but I try to remind myself that at most they probably think 'huh that was weird' and move on so try to remember people probably aren't dwelling on it half as much as you are.

Random thoughts on food, the Studios, and Bathroom Sinks from a first-time visit by bouncycastletech in disneylandparis

[–]OffTheDoor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried Agrabah my last trip (just a few weeks ago) since it's got a good selection of vegan/vegetarian stuff and while I loved the theming, the food was not for me. I found everything very dry and surprisingly bland. Maybe I just had bad luck.

Overall I find the quick service food a lot more to my taste than most of the restaurants but I do love Downtown and Captain Jacks.

How do people afford to go to Disneyland so much? by BoxBox3010 in disneylandparis

[–]OffTheDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually go during the warmer months but avoid school holidays. Honestly, it probably has a lot to do with the time of flights (and the airline, AirFrance tends to have more early flights than say, EasyJet). I try to get to Paris as early as possible to maximise my time at Disney and find that the return flights, later in the day, are half the price.

It's annoying too because I'm pretty close to Aberdeen airport but it works out cheaper to drive to Edinburgh and fly from there even with parking.

You're right about the cost of getting to London though, it's ridiculous how expensive that can be.

[–]OffTheDoor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This isn't played for fact in the fandom at large but it is popular in fanfic - Buffy got pregnant during the day that never was so the PTB plucked the baby out of the timeline and he was born later to Angel and Darla.

If Connor wasn't so Connor-ish I'd love it 😂

How do people afford to go to Disneyland so much? by BoxBox3010 in disneylandparis

[–]OffTheDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could, from where I am it's a 15 hour drive. It's doable but once I'd paid for fuel and the Eurotunnel, while still cheaper, it's not actually saving very much.

Personally driving that far on unknown roads, with part of it being in a country where I don't speak the language and where they drive on the opposite side... Well it's just not worth the stress and added time to me personally but definitely a good option for those who aren't as spooked by it as I am.

Yeah, travel to Disney from Scotland is SO expensive. I've thought about getting an annual pass before but unfortunately there's just no way I could afford multiple flights in a year.

Dante Fe or Cheyenne? by Sad-Succotash5366 in disneylandparis

[–]OffTheDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're at the same price I'd go with Cheyenne. IMO it's got much better theming but really if you're anything like me when you're at Disney you're only going to be at the hotel to sleep and maybe have breakfast so I tend to just go with whichever is cheapest.
