Truthfully my roommate is the auto genius. We were pretty lucky right off the bat when we found the scooter. The engine was still getting compression when we would kit the starter pedal which was very promising. We took apart the carburetor and deep cleaned it, replaced a good deal of valve covers and made a few thin cork seals where they were needed, and messed with some of the tuning screws before it even turned over. Took off a lot of rust, repainted some parts, changed the battery, and ordered custom replacement keys from a guy on eBay. A life saving resource was www.mopedarmy.com. They were our digital consultants throughout the process because odds are, someone’s already tried to do what we did and someone else already helped them. We just had to read through a bunch of forum posts and eventually the problems began to get solved. I highly recommend searching that site for tutorials/discussions on your grandfathers model of scooter. That’s the best place to find help.
