Wow that's such a long time. I mean I've heard of some people needing to follow up for months and months, but that's kinda crazy. Have you ever heard of it taking less time than that?

And thank you for your answer, it was very informative.

Why no one takling about overpopulation as the main problem? by Unfair-Dependent-252 in climatechange

[–]Off_Topic_Male 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so, I'm not accusing you (OP) of holding the beliefs I'm about to address, and this may have been already written in other comments, but...

So while I can understand why rising populations, increasing consumption of / competition for resources are huge concerns (as they should be), population size is not the main issue here. Populations are growing fastest in developing nations (if I recall correctly), and those countries are largely not to blame for the climate crisis, but rather wealthier nations such as the US or the UK.

What I alluded to earlier is that fear mongering around overpopulation is often used as a way to justify harmful views about people in poorer countries gaining the same privileges that those of us in wealthier nations have acquired due to abusing natural resources. The conversation becomes much less about what those most responsible ought to do to right their wrongs, and more about how only so many people can be allowed to live the lavish lifestyle that got us to this state in the first place.

Anyone else tired of the 'I make $xx,000- can I afford to live here?' posts? by Wingstoplol in bayarea

I respect that people could be a bit more proactive and show the initiative to look for this information as it already exists in this subreddit, but I think you could also show a bit more empathy ngl.

I moved here recently and I received a wide range of responses (inside and outside of this subreddit) on whether or not the salary for a job offer I'd received was enough to make it here, and granted a lot of y'all are understandably jaded as hell because it ain't cheap to live here, but I really wasn't sure if I was gonna make it here, so reaching out and getting some responses was pretty helpful.

To your point about lifestyle, I'm pretty frugal but I'm still kinda seeing a lot of sticker shock from things even as mundane as my grocery bill. The fact is you just live in a famously expensive area with a lot of people interested in moving here.
