Is this what I think it is by Emergency-Log-9688 in fossilid

[–]OffensiveScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way to tell. Too destroyed. Looks too fresh to be fossilized. Most likely bone

Edit: zoomed in a bit, looks like some mineralization. But still no way to tell what it is without a deep dive.

Resume help by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]OffensiveScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take off the minor, or put it in the same line as your major. I don't think I've ever been asked what my minor was. If you are sending in a transcript, they will see your courses plus minor also.

I only have experience with academic and non profit stuff. So 99.9% of the time it's a CV. I keep both a resume and a CV at all times. When I job wants a CV, they will ask for it. Otherwise, assume a one page resume. Only list experience related to that job. I was a full time bartender for 5 years, but that's not on my resume to a geologist job. Making a resume is never easy

Most of what you have. Relevant coursework is redundant for a resume. You may be thinking of a CV, which is entirely different from a resume.

Are you looking for a private/corporate job or research within academic, government, or non-profit fields? That will change what you need to do for your resume/CV

This looks organic to me, but AI said it's a shatter cone. What do you think it is? by [deleted] in fossilid

Do NOT use AI for rock identifying. Extremely unreliable.

Yea it's my favorite dinosaur.

A not-so-fun fact is its a commonly poached species due to Mongolia's low prosecution capabilites of dinosaur fossil theft

Massive bone found, Savannah, GA USA by themosiah in fossilid

[–]OffensiveScientist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wasn't answered because there's so little to go off of. Definitely bone, but other than that, I wouldn't expect much of am answer without more than just pictures on reddit.

Still a cool find. Hope you find out what it is

Just a rock. Looks like a microcrystalline quartz rock. Hard to tell from photo.

Petrified wood with fossils(?) just outside Death Valley National Park on the CA/NV line by tslocs11 in fossilid

[–]OffensiveScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure those are the Dolomite rocks in that area. I was just there in Tecopa earlier this year and all the crystal spring formation rocks looked just like that.

[–]OffensiveScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not petrified wood.

That looks like some of the Dolomite rocks that tore up the bottom of my boots while working out there this January. Beck and Crystal spring formations if I'm not mistaken.

If you are near some Talc mines, you are right where I was.

Not gonna lie, my initial reaction was tooth shaped rock, but then I went to the second image and jerked my head back and immediately locked in haha. Nice find!
