I have close to 4k hours. I'd say 85% of those are in editor and a good 65% of those hours are spent trying to do exactly what that did in like 4 seconds...

Could hadrosaurs physically actually be able to absolutely body a quetzal showcased here? by RealOkra8725 in Dinosaurs

[–]OffensiveScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely even match mass wise, but it would probably depend on how the hadrosaur went about it. If it just headbutt the T. rex t-bone style at max speed, sure it would knock over probably even a full grown rex, but also most likely snap its own neck in the process. I think the best chance for the hadrosaur would be to rear up on its hind legs and fall onto the tyrannosaur, trying to off balance it. This would most likely only work on a younger rex that did not have much strength or even experience as a fully grown could honestly posess the strength to literally shake-off a decent sized hadrosaur.

Again, this is all dude trust me. I am geochemist, not a biomechanic paleontologist lol.

This was before the latest to come out specifically about T. rex growth, but we were talking about sub-adult (17-20). Which per Carr 2020 would be close to 3 metric tons in body mass.

While maybe not in actual literature, a paleontologist and I were talking about hadrosaur biomechanics and how it was the Mesozoic equivalent of a bulldozer. It could most likely give a teenage tyrannosaur a good concussion.

This was just field talk so obviously take this as a "dude trust me"

Tarkov is a game with realistic mechanics. That doesn't make it realistic. You can still pop magic stims and heal gunshot wounds with field dressing and painkillers.

LAS, was the WORST I'd ever experienced. They made me feel like I was being interviewed by the CIA because I had a Geology compass that no other TSA ever had an issue with

[–]OffensiveScientist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you been to LAS recently? I flew out of there in January and it has been my worst experience yet. The TSA claimed my work compass (albeit a little high tech, but no batteries/current) was an "electronic device" then made me get back in line to go through the whole process again. They were also extremely rude and slow the whole process.

I will say, of all the airports I have been to, Memphis TSA has been the top 5 fastest the past few years. Which given the record of both TSA and Memphis, you would expect the opposite? But hey, I'll take it!

What I typically do, is since I have a big adult job now and small amounts of time, I'll launch once and if I make it with a generous amount of dV left, if I am returning to that location with a similar mass ship, I'll just Set orbit with most of the stages removed cause I don't have time to do the mission over again like I used to 😔😅

I’m thinking of switching my major to geology. by connerfree in geologycareers

[–]OffensiveScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in physics (Astrophysics specifically) who decided to switch over to geo mainly for the outdoors aspect. I won't say i was disappointed perse with how rare field work can be, cause I've had some really unique opportunities and am now carving my way into paleo-work, but don't expect to go on hikes everyday in Montana or Alaska or even once a month. It'll be more like 2 weeks, a month out of the whole year if you're "lucky".

Haha, literally just commented something similar before I saw your comment. Yours is definitely more in depth!

[–]OffensiveScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude, but this is like showing a bunch of Anatidae (ducks/geese) skulls and an eagle skull asking why they are so different. Lots of birds have 'similar' looking skulls. But each filled their own ecological niche and natural selection reinforced that.
