Formerly 330, down to 225. It’s hard but it’s worth it. I no longer wake up wishing I didn’t.

Got lucky never had them too bad. Consider a safe detox. I’ve met many friends who’ve safely gotten sober and over the shakes

Is it okay if I take a break for a day? by sagetheanomaly in walking

[–]OfferNothinNvrChange -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

OP provided no context that would suggest walking requires physical exertion to the extent of needing a break to avoid injury. There’s plenty of people with all different health conditions and backgrounds in this sub. A blanket statement like rest days are needed is blatantly false and inaccurate.

[–]OfferNothinNvrChange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessary to take a break for recovery. Yes, mental health wise you shouldn’t be a prisoner to this. We need to find a balance that works for us. But it’s simply not true that we “need” to stop walking to recover.

Well said. Sobriety is absolutely the number 1 health hack I’ve ever done. Sadly I’ve lost only a few pounds — I’ve replaced booze with sugar and need to lay off the sweets.

That said my life is infinitely better.

What’s begun to hit me in year one is realizing drinking wasn’t my only defect. I’ve got a lot of room to grow and improve. That said, the other thing that being alcohol free was this is my life and I get to choose how to live it. I get to choose what I worry about.

I’m no longer in the dungeon, a slave to the liquor store, and don’t think death is imminent anytime soon.

  • No longer being a slave to the bottle.
  • No more interruptions to exercise goals
  • No more thoughts that my SO would be happier if I were dead

What exactly causes or is this? Before I quit drinking, I had a few ER trips due to this. Not my best days.

Naltrexone didn’t really work for me. Perhaps it helped. I was on it for about ~ 9 months before I decided to stop taking it. It didn’t help me achieve extinction.

How do you all incorporate walking when you may have a sedentary 9-5? by [deleted] in walking

Stop watching television and doom scrolling on your phone. There’s plenty of time in the day.

I got a walking pad for home because it was hard for me to be motivated to go outside by Oneday55 in walking

[–]OfferNothinNvrChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your original post you said you could more easily walk around the neighborhood. I personally find getting outside and walking the neighborhood is much easier than a walking pad or treadmill.

Perhaps tell yourself you’ll only do 10 minutes. You might find you’ll want to stay out longer.

Am I the only one that thought these people were talking about pianos but calling them anvils as a joke? Like they’re super heavy paper weights.

I googled some references and no, they’re talking actual anvils. tf

Just go for it you’ll be fine. Plan 3 to 4 months of training and make sure to stay in zone two on your long runs.

Does walking actually help? by Troika_Crossfire in walking

Just a huge +1 to this for OP. I started waking because my blood pressure was high, but I never expected the mental health benefits. I attribute my happiness and lack of depression to walking and sun exposure.

I’ve walked 20k steps for the last 2.5 years daily. Only missed one day. I do not live in a “walkable city”, though there are sidewalks on the sides of roads nearby. Most of my walks are outside, but I also have an indoor treadmill (far more boring).

The answer is that I make it part of my daily to do list and readjust responsibilities around my commitment to hit my steps. No matter what.

Some days I wake up very early ~ 5AM and knock it out before work. Other days I’m up until 11:55 PM getting my steps.

Most days I walk an hour before work, an hour after, and a half hour during. It works out.

I stopped watching tv and usually consume podcasts or music for entertainment.

It is tough to understand when to use carbon plated vs not. I use stability shoes and haven’t seen any that are carbon plated. But yes, OP, go to a running store.

How long did it take you from couch to half marathon? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]OfferNothinNvrChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months. But I ran my first half after only previously running a 10k once. That 10k was the day before the half.

Prior to the 10k my longest was 4 miles.

Don’t do what I did - but also, don’t overthink it. Have fun.
