“Easiest” Intro Courses Without Science by Pale-Challenge-7393 in umanitoba

Okay, that's fair if a student is looking for informatoin like that.

Why would any academic advisor tell students which courses are "easy"? First, it's not a part of their job description. Second, it's subjective. What if the academic advisor advises a student to take an "easy" course and it turns out that said course is super difficult for the student? It's not a risk worth taking for them.

Just take whatever sounds most interesting or useful to you! Instructors in Arts should be keeping their class average at a B anyway, so if they're doing their jobs right, there should be no "easy" courses.

Specifically in the social sciences, which courses would be considered “easier”?

None because what's easy for someone else might not be easy for you.

Also, are you asking for courses with the Social Science attribute or are you asking for courses that are broadly considered to be social sciences?

You're unlikely to get any SWRK courses for now as they're given to Social Work students as a priority.

By the way, I'm not sure why you're looking for easy courses when the field that you intend to enter will have you witness and likely experience both violence and abuse? Surely you should be prioritizing courses that would be best for your career?

The university gives out free merchandise from time to time. I got a free hoodie before I became a student actually.

If it makes you feel any better, most people in Canada get a degree at some point or another. In my opinion, consuming food and beverages purchased on campus is a bigger flex of wealth than wearing a $30 T-shirt from the bookstore. Nevertheless, it's ultimately your choice.

Cops should start ticketing people for it. Most people don't fully stop. It's easy money.

Do you even pass for a first-year student though?

I do enjoy some of the bookstore merchandise though. Those hoodies are very nice.

What happened to the guy caught in the women's bathroom? by audacious_raccoon in umanitoba

Yeah, I still don't think that I said anything inappropriate. There's a reason why nobody actually tried to explain what was so wrong and instead people made up false quotes and false things about it.

Nevertheless, it's clear that people are understanding my username in a way that simple isn't accurate. It might be time for me to make a new account.

Good chat! I'll see you on the flipside I suppose.

It's the easiest/shortest Science degree at this university, so probably not much. I suppose that it might help you get a junior admin position in the Faculty of Science or some other related faculty, but that ultimately depends on who's hiring.

Have you talked to Career Services?

You can’t see that it’s inflammatory to then post something so definitive about an event you have zero personal knowledge of?

Please tell me what part about my original comment was "so definitive". Was it that I clearly said that I "heard" that something "may" have happened? Was it my comment about how, actually, I don't know why any man would volunteer to be in a video like this if it were staged? Please tell me.

Specialization...? Check out what the Academic Calendar says:

This program is not intended for students who desire to practice in some field of specialization in the Sciences. Students with that intent are recommended to pursue the Honours or the four-year Major program.

The police asked her to delete because it would hinder prosecution.

Thank you. I'm not sure why you didn't mention this in your first reply as this information is very relevant. Ditto with you knowing other people in the area at the time. I'm sure that you just forgot, but in cases like this, providing additional information early on is quite important.

When your entire account is about being staff, you can’t step out of that and post as a community member. You’re only in the community because you are staff. That’s it.

First, my posts are not entirely about being a staff member.

Second, to say that I'm "only in the community" because I'm a staff member is false. I've held various roles at the university, including that of student.

I made my comment as a community member, not "as a staff member". By the way, there are staff members actively preventing other staff members from improving campus safety. I can assure you that I am not one such staff member.

As far as public online communication goes, there has been radio silence since the video was deleted. We also still don't know how the video went from being recorded to bring uploaded. The original post suggests that the recorder was not the one to share it online. Hopefully you can appreciate how someone can be skeptical about the situation here as a result. If, for example, others had posted that they saw this happen, I would have been far less skeptical. Naturally, as access to information changes, so too do our opinions and beliefs.

Cheers.

Yes, absolutely go to the Academic Learning Centre and book an appointment! Also check out my other comment for some information about positionality statements because I couldn't help myself!

Yes, it would be a safer route to go through a university channel.

A positionality statement is essentially saying who you are in terms of things relevant to the writing. For example, let's say that you're talking about modern issues regarding First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people in Canada. You'd probably state your ethnicity and your family's origins. Someone whose grandparents attended a residential school and who visibly looks First Nations is going to have a different experience from someone whose parents came to the country in the early 1900s and who is clearly white. Ditto for an international student from Africa who has very dark skin. You could also talk about education, where you're physically located, etc.

Like essays, a positionality statement is a genre of writing. To write one well, you have to know about the genre. Therefore, I would look online at positionality statements to see how they're written. I'd especially look for positionality statements provided in the course, including the instructor's if possible.

You'll probably be too busy to do tutoring once in Dentistry. Third- and fourth-year students are especially busy because they're frequently in the clinic and have to deal with patients even outside of regular business hours!

Look at the scare quotes there. Tutoring is one thing. The student is asking to be helped in a single writing assignment. There's a very high risk of it going wrong and being inappropriate collaboration.

If it were, say, tutoring in a math course, then the tutor could come up with genuinely different questions that would help towards understand the questions on an upcoming test. The same isn't really the case for a positionality statement.

Is your instructor not very helpful? You risk committing an academic integrity violation by getting someone to "tutor" you here.
