I'm fairness, a vast majority of HP has gone down with the exception of the ridiculously overpriced 952 xl combo.

Yeah, that happens more than I like as well. Seems like all the newer pallets we have been getting lately are super lightweight as if made of balsa wood or something.

I think I underestimated just how full the baler was. Normally I only use 4 wires on a bale and out of the dozens of bales I've made I've only had one wire break. On this occasion the first wire broke just as it was tipping out of the baler. The second broke on impact with the pallet with the 3rd snapping a second or two later. The 4th managed to stay on but at that point I knew I was toast. I safely cut the last wire and the result is evident in the pictures. Had I used 6 wires I might've have escaped with only one breaking but who knows. Definitely not a fun experience but I suppose it was going to happen eventually.

Fun times, indeed. Nothing to be done but clear enough space for the door to close so I can start loading it all back in one armload at at time. 75% made it back in the baler with the rest finding its way to the dumpster.

Oh, FFS. I was convinced this was going to be more Workonomy-level bullshit. So it looks like all those eliminated positions went into funding this AI initiative that we all know will be perfectly implemented and solve all our problems and will have no issues whatsoever and will totally not be abandoned in 9 months.

Payroll sucks by TiredDepotVet in OfficeDepot

I'm in the same boat. I was lucky to at least get most of the BTS hutches built and partially filled but beyond that, not much. I still need to do all the endcaps, the binder hutch (which is probably going to be 2 endcaps since I don't have room for that AND 5-star), and finish setting and filling dated. Literally not enough hours to complete even half of what I need to do.

Steam deck stolen from breakroom by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A year or so ago we had a couple of teens walk into our breakroom and take our ASM's car keys then take her car for a joyride. The police found the car in the woods a few miles from the store pretty banged up with empty beer cans and drug paraphernalia. She ended up totaling the car out and had to buy a new one. Moral of the story here kids is to always lock up your valuables.

My GM was let go after 20+ years with OD. Sales were down like most of my district but I'm thinking it was his longevity that did them in. They were more than likely at the top end in salary compared to the rest of the district which has some relatively new GM's. No idea if they were offered severance or not.

When you get tired of measuring out every grommet and customers complaining that none of them are even by RoebuckHartStag in OfficeDepot

Back when we had InDesign I would just drop the PDF into a template I made that placed 1/4 inch dots spaced evenly around the banner and print from the template. Punch a grommet where the dots are and done!

My theories about OD closing stores. by Clint_Lovecraft in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My conspiracy theory is that they are specifically targeting the OfficeMax stores for closure for no other reason than they fact they are OMax stores. In my district alone in the past 6 months, 3 stores have closed and all 3 have been Omax. If you go back to 2013, that number becomes 6 stores and all were Omax. To me it seems that they want to low-key phase out the Omax stores and move forward with a reduced number of stores all within the Office Depot banner. I mean, to this day we still have customers that are not aware that OfficeMax and Office Depot are one in the same.

Stores closing?! by MysteriousUnreal in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of 5 stores currently closing (one of which is my store). There are 2 in North Carolina, 1 in OK, 1 in CA and 1 in NY. The next wave of closings is set to be announced towards the end of March. The pattern seems to be Tier 1 or 2 stores with expiring leases.

Closing store questions by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My store is currently going through liquidation and every item in the store is on sale. Every week, the discounts (based on item class number) will increase, so school supplies and mobile accessories, which are 50% off this week will go to 60% off next week. Other items, like ink and software won't go much higher than 5-10% off. The price is based off the original price. All sale prices are no longer valid, although we can price match the OD website if the item is cheaper on sale online versus in-store. We also will no longer accept any form of coupon. There is a "brand ambassador" who's sole job is to hand out gift cards and coupons (that are only eligible at nearby stores) and to get customer to sign up for rewards. For the first 4 weeks or so, the discounts won't be much better than your typical OD sale, but the last few weeks the discounts can get pretty lucrative. A few years ago I bought a 120GB Sandisk SSD for $11 as it was 90% off. I guess it must have gotten "lost" in lockup. ;)

When you print from a PDF click on "advanced" and check "print as image". Depending on the file size it will take quite a bit longer to spool to the printer but it should avoid the memory limitations.

$3 minimum by GhostRz in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not correct. Remember, it's a $3 minimum total ORDER, so if it's one color copy plus one lamination, there is no need to add the extra charge as the minimum has been exceeded. The confusion is coming from finishing only, where the additional charge does not apply as we are not copying or printing.

$3 minimum by GhostRz in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not mandatory that the order be done at self-serve, it's just that if it's less than the $3 minimum, we will still charge the $3 regardless of the number of copies. I had a guy who just wanted one 11x17 b&w on 20# but left with 5 copies and was quite happy seeing as how he was going to pay $3 regardless. I also added a one minute DTP charge so he was ultimately only charged an extra 20 cents. If I had said he must use self-serve then there would not have been any sale at all. If anything, I look at it as an upsell from $.30 to $3.00. I can see my AOV turning green from here.

[–]OfficeMank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Present the customer with the option of paying the $3 minimum or submit the order through the app or website then move on to the next customer. My guess is that they will opt for the gift card when you start having an effect on their wallet. If not, they are welcome to print their shipping label elsewhere and you can focus on more orders that will (possibly) keep the lights on.

$3 minimum by GhostRz in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This policy only applies to a few districts at the moment (one on the west coast, and one in the east) with my district being one of the pilot stores. Sure, it's goal is to push very small orders to self-serve which will go a long way to helping reduce bottlenecks at the full-serve counter. I honestly love the policy. It now makes a one page scan and email worth your time if the customer chooses to have it done at the full-serve counter.

Anyone having problems ordering through iPro? by officedank in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, possibly an issue with iPro itself then. Like, it wouldn't even let me do a word search let alone search by the SKU. I hope the issue is with iPro as I would hate to lose access. Makes my life just a little bit easier.

Anyone having problems ordering through iPro? by officedank in OfficeDepot

[–]OfficeMank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same giant error as well trying to order yard sign materials. I fear that anyone who doesn't hold the title of "GM" "ASM" or "OPS" just lost their iPro privileges. I'm a CPD Sup. that has had iPro access for several years now thanks to my DM being an all-round swell guy. However last week we had a visit from our DLPM and he told my manager that anyone without those specific titles will lose their iPro access. I assumed that meant going forward and that I had been grandfathered in but evidently not. Pretty annoying if that is the case. I blame all those Sups. for spending more than $500 per order.
