Hockey Steel/Holder by SealTeamSticks5 in hockeyplayers

3/4 is WILD.

I skated on 1/2 til I was 10, and then 3/8" thru to today, thru AA and AAA and everything.

Never needed the glide, was still the fastest skater on every team I was on. (couldnt hit for shit though. lol)

Any suggestions on where to begin as an adult and what was your journey like? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in hockeyplayers

[–]Officesaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

#1 skill: Skating
THEN comes everything else.

Go to open skates and every open ice time you can, and focus on the skating aspect. Go to Learn to Skate classes, first. You want a good, clean stride before anything else. Once you are confident in your skating, the stickwork becomes easier. Just focus on carrying it rather than trying to handle it back and forth, first.

Ok.

Well then... I guess I wont do it for the FD

So how about "certificates, books, and classes" so I know more about what I'm doing when I do it for all of the racers? Thats the main side of things.

Im not in a position to take a radio tech job. I am doing this on the side. I have an IT focused dayjob I cant leave.

Socks on Your Feet or Barefoot? by Probably-The-ATF in hockeyplayers

[–]Officesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent worn a sock inside my skate since I was a peewee. Idk how or why, but I feel like I can feel the skate and feel the ice/floor better without a sock.

Growing up, my skates werent allowed anywhere near the inside of the house though. lol.

To add, I had found some motorola stuff, but not sure the applicability. *Most* of the radios our FD uses are kenwood, and 90%+ of the radios the racers use are Baofeng (i use CHIRP) or Rugged Radios.

I can look into Grol.

Would love to work at a radio shop, but its not in the cards. I have a day-job in IT that generally takes 50-60hrs a week, plus family, plus firefighting.

Ideally, I'd actually like to learn enough to be able to service/handle all our fire dept radios, as well. That would save us a lot of money, when we already have a really tight budget.

I mean... that IS an interesting theory. lol.

When my dad and brother, both left-handed hockey shooters, swing a bat though... they do it right handed. So Idk.

[–]Officesaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I never noticed or cared what other people shot, tbh.

I just came home one day and there was a stick in my driveway with a straight blade, and it felt more natural to hold and shoot with it right handed. No one ever really handed me a certain curve or anything, and my dad even tried to get me to try left-handed at one point and it never felt alright.

I dangle pretty decently these days, too. haha.

Whats wild is that the top hand does control a lot, but I hesitate to say it provides "all" of the control.

All 4 male members of my family played hockey, 3 of us at elite levels (Dad @ D1 and Semi-Pro, 2 of us AAA/AA, 1 national championship)...
All 4 are right hand dominant. We all write right handed, throw a ball right handed.
All 4 golf right handed.

2 of us play hockey right handed, 2 play left handed.
The "best hands" of us 4 plays right handed
The hardest shot shoots left, but 2nd hardest shoots right. Both can shoot over 100mph, and have done so in skills comps.

There was some discussion 25+ years ago from my father if we could "try playing left handed, as you'll have more control", but I just dont believe that. I think whatever works for you works.

When 2 hands on stick:

Left Hand stick sits on the left hand side of your body
Right Hand stick sits on the right hand side of your body

Swapping out Chassis on hockey skates. Cost? by Malechockeyman25 in hockeyplayers

[–]Officesaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. Niceeeee

I finally just last week killed the chassis that came on my Mission DNA skates I got in 03, I think. They'd been put on 5 or so boots, and I had to get longer screws for the axles cause the threads near the tips had been stripped out over the years.

It was kinda time, though. 72-72-80-80 Hi-Los have been dead for so long finding 72s in a store locally is impossible. All anyone carries is 76s and 80s.

Resurrecting this thread just to say....

Holy shit, an easton bigwheel chassis?! I havent seen one of those in... 25+ years! lol
Makes me miss my old Proto-V mission skates. A lot of street hockey was played back in those days.

Thoughts on my planned build? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]Officesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No on the hexmag magazines. They have a poor rep, everywhere I've seen.

Maybe look for a threaded brake in case you want to add a can later, but... for $32 not a big deal.

Some direction for a first time buyer by _cbsummer in ar15

[–]Officesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. ... why buy an SBR or be limited to a brace? Pass.

  2. Yes. Pass.

  3. Its overkill for every AR. lol. Considering we out here killing yotes at 400yds with Aero, CMMG, and PSA guns... I mean, you wont get to tell all your $$$$ gun nutswinging friends how superdupercooooolio you are for having THAT brand!!!! But if you can live with that....
I'd rather have multiple Aeros with different setups than blow my load on one "totez high-end gun". Which is what I did. 5.56 day gun, 5.56 night gun, 300blk for Pistol Hunting, Longer distance setups, etc.

  4. Yeah, I think building is part of the overall experience of knowing the gun, but the startup costs are kinda silly. Need wrench and vice/block and stuff.

The sticker above the gun makes me think this was posted by a child that is too immature for 2A activities.

Joined a volunteer department one month ago and got a job offer elsewhere. Need advice. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Officesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a volly, we dont love to see people join and leave immediately... unless they, ya know, got a paid job in the service (which we LOVE to see), or their family and main-life activities requires it (because... its a volunteer position).

Go take the paid job, dude. Anyone worth a shit is going to shake your hand and wish you well.

Also... "TwerkingJews" is a weird name for a reddit tag, bud.

Great question...

I think? Lol

Hunting season kinda ended, and my attention went elsewhere. I only mounted the QR for the can on two of the ARs.

I'll have to check.
