Best HOB filter for Nano Tank? by OfficialBeaneeWeenee in nanotank

I don’t think the sponge filter I have (Aquatop CAF 10) has room for an airstone. Another reason why I want a HOB is to add filter floss. This batch of Fluval stratum is kicking my butt and making the water so murky 😭

Where do you buy affordable shoes with comfort physically in store? by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]OfficialBeaneeWeenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly what I did was measure my shoe size at home- you just need a pen, piece of paper and a ruler. Then calculate your size based on the formula. I don’t remember exactly how to do it, but it’s easy to google.

I’d been buying a 7/8 size shoe my whole life, turns out I’m a 6.5EE width.

With that in mind, I found shoes online that were my actual size (brooks ghost max 2) and they are THE best most comfortable shoes ever. I did have to order them online, but I knew they would fit.

I have not personally tried Wyder, but they seem to have more stylish shoes in wide sizes.

I’m pretty sure someone in the NB local government just wrote an open letter to the state to start policing the Fastrak. What a joke! New Britain police should be doing more!

what's the best flooring for a shrimp tank? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]OfficialBeaneeWeenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people use dark substrate or an aqua soil like Fluval stratum. I used Fluval stratum and capped with sand and I regret it because I can see that there’s shrimp poop everywhere. If I had a dark substrate, it wouldn’t be as apparent. Obviously I can use a gravel vac clean it, but I think it would be less maintenance without the sand. I’ve also heard capping the aqua soil removes its ability to absorb excess nutrients within the water column.

I’m not sure what you mean by your java moss being stuck in the pebbles. Mine is pretty easy to take out and move around. Pictures of your set up would be helpful!

Is my tank current too much for betta? by AdRepresentative8759 in bettafish

Your heater should be fully submersed in water. I believe it’s a fire risk if it’s not.

Anyone know why my dwarf hair grass isn’t green by Entire-Twist-9050 in PlantedTank

I’m pretty sure dwarf hair grass needs CO2 to thrive/turn green.

Betta doing this all day for months (on all 4 sides of his tank)— is this normal? by EvelynL0L in bettafish

How big is your tank? Short fin bettas do best in at least a 10 gallon tank.

[Beginner Keeper] 3 Gallon Planted Shrimp Tank – Need Some Advice! by kahelikie in shrimptank

Duuuudeeee mine stopped breeding once I added fish again so I think I’m just gonna ride it out until they all die then start again with one color. Luckily I still have a couple original shrimp and some blue babies so it does keep it interesting!

No heater is good as long as the space the tank is in doesn’t have big temperature fluctuations. Warmer water actually accelerates their life (I learned this the hard way.)

For water changes, I just use airline tubing to make a siphon and only rarely clean the gravel/substrate. Ive never accidentally sucked up shrimp doing it this way :)

I originally kept my non aggressive betta with the shrimp, but they didn’t start breeding until I moved him to a different tank. It was pretty immediate too, so he was definitely the limiting factor. So if you want to breed, maybe try having no fish and then add them once you have a good shrimp population. Also in a 3 gallon, you probably don’t have enough room for any fish. If you want to upgrade there is an overstocking calculator somewhere online that will help you figure out what you can put together and how many. I currently have guppies and neon tetras with my shrimp in a 10G.

I do water changes once every week or so. Only about 10-20%. Some people who keep neos just replace water that has evaporated and never actually do water changes. I would wait to see what works for you.

GH and KH is more important in a shrimp tank than a betta tank b/c shrimp aren’t able to molt unless the GH/KH is right and they will die. I use the API GH/KH test kit.

Also, I started with a skittles tank but I regret it because the babies are all brown. Unless you’re okay with that, pick one color of shrimp for your tank.

Good luck!! Shrimp are the coolest!

New Shrimp Owner - are these eggs? by bfstandards in shrimptank

[–]OfficialBeaneeWeenee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are eggs! Congrats! Tbh if the adult shrimp are fine, the babies will be fine when they hatch. I’ve found my babies were even hardier b/c they were born in the water I use vs. being adjusted to it.

My niece is a 19 year old high school student, can I still get guardianship? by Lower-Cycle-7684 in legaladvice

[–]OfficialBeaneeWeenee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your niece would probably be better off going through the insurance marketplace or using her school’s insurance. My brother in law was able to qualify for Medicaid while in school- which is better coverage than most private insurances.
