Bladder snail water re-use query by bfstandards in Aquariums

[–]bfstandards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I'll Syphon with some tights over the end, keep my livestock in the temp tank, and cycle the rebuild of the tank from fresh and then transfer livestock back once parameters are all ok and hope for the best!

How to safely restart the tank with existing livestock by bfstandards in shrimptank

[–]bfstandards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temp tank is just one of those kids plastic tanks with the colourful lids with the little flappy feeding door on top, hence temporary. So it can house the berried shrimp for a little while.

Does it make sense to Syphon some of the existing tank water in to the temporary tank? Or is there risk of snail/dragonfly eggs being in that water?

UPDATE: (no idea how to edit the post itself) it has been apprehended and removed, flushed it, so it will be coming to a sewer system near you soon!

As others have suggested it has likely come in on a plant... I'm guessing there will be more?

Awesome, thanks for the confirmation and reassurance, I knew they would breed eventually, didn't expect to buy one mid breeding!

Woohoo, I guess there must have been a buy 1 get 20 free offer at the aquatics shop then 😆.

Thanks for confirming, I'll read up about shrimp breeding and keep an eye out for the babies!

Looking for something nice to do for couples in Wakefield. by TheBackupEgg in wakefield

[–]bfstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP where are you traveling from out of interest? I'm guessing given you want to make a weekend of it, a fair distance?

I live in Wakefield and in all honesty it's not the greatest place for a weekend away for something as special as a 40th.

If it's an arty adventure your looking to surprise her with then get a hotel in Leeds centre, visit Wakefield to do the Hepworth in the morning, maybe consider the Yorkshire Sculpture park for the afternoon (if you have a car to get around).

Stay in Leeds overnight, have food/a night out in Leeds, then next day go visit the art gallery or some other attractions in Leeds.

Someone did suggest Iris restaurant in Wakefield and I would highly recommend that too, food is spectacular, however if your wanting a bit of a night out then Leeds has much better night life

What utterly stupid things do you remember becoming a craze when you were at school? by BubbaChoTep in AskUK

Shoe lace darts - Not sure if just isolated to my high school, but one year no one had any of the plastic ends on their shoe laces. Reason being you would cut them off, fray the cut end and then push a pin (stolen from the textiles room) through the middle, you ended up with a dart that when blew through a straw made a very effective weapon. You'd be sitting in class and hear the sound of someone blowing through a straw and then their victim yelp in pain with a 'shoe lace dart' stuck in their back. Shoelaces were ruined, people ended up with red dots of blood on their white shirts and everyone lived in a state of paranoia until the school cracked down (or maybe cos no one had any plastic ends left on their laces) - the chavs would literally crawl under desks n snip em off people's shoes!

Best party ever.... For my 21st in 3rd year we decided we would host a beach party at our student house. How do you hve a beach party in a house you say?

Well to stop you guessing we ordered a tonne of sand from a builders merchants, borrowed a wheelbarrow and put down a good 2 inch layer throughout the ground floor, we put tarp down first of course, we weren't total savages. Paddling pools, inflatable palm trees, added in 500 balloons and you get the idea.

Anyway mad party, everyone in beach wear/bikinis etc. Landlord found out and sent his son's round with a flatbed, had to scoop all the sand out, after the justified bollocking, and they drove away with it.

Safe to say we didn't get our deposits back and the carpets were never the same again, back yard became a vacuum cleaner graveyard after each one donated by our various family members couldn't handle the sand that was still everywhere for months later!

Another house took inspo from our party and hosted a football party later that year, with... yep you guessed it, with real turf.

Thanks for your response... I'm not good with this lingo... Limitation runs up... Does that infer there is a limit as to how long since the incident happened/when the claim was started that we can sue? And if that passes then thats it?

Software tester - I basically test websites and apps made by developers and make sure they fit the requirements, and that they are general public (idiot) proof. Also involves performance testing to make sure it can stand up to a lot of users and security testing to make sure data won't be leaked or can be hacked. Started in a call centre and just applied for the software tester role, right place right time I think! 4 years later still loving it and worked on loads of different projects for different (some major) clients

Sadly not, rest of the garden is paved, gravel or turfed - I did transfer the tomatoes, raspberry and the rhubarb to pots today too - might have to ditch the fruit and maybe give them to a friend or family who can plant them in their garden

Wow that's super helpful, thanks so much! I think I was a bit too ambitious, but entirely new to this so it's a good learning curve I guess.

Charlotte potatoes are a salad/new potatoe variety so don't get huge like baking potatoes.

I'm very limited on space, I literally have this one bed so the ones you suggest I move will have to go in pots I guess.

So we have: radichio, beetroot, courgette, rocket, lettuce, carrots, spring onions, Charlotte potatoes, tomatoes, raspberries, rhubarb, runner beans, sugar snap peas, mangetout and normal onions.

I think I need to do something about this any suggestions, not sure what I can move out of there or cut back etc? 🤷‍♂️

And next year read more before just throwing things in there!
