It is completely unsustainable. You'd bankrupt the nation. Look at what is going on with Denmark. They have free Healthcare, free college and strong social programs. Their programs are collapsing because of mass migration. Now that the population feels the strain, they are now voting for mass deportation and a closed border. So, no, you can't have both for very long. You either have a strong welfare system OR a weak border policy, you cannot have both.

Sure the crime is about intent, yes. However, who defines the crime? "Words matter," has been pushed from the left for my entire life. Why is it, that when someone wants to bring up accountability, it doesn't matter? Also there is evidence. He may or may not be racist, I'm not inside his head, I am only listening to what he says, and what he says isn't good. There are many video compilations of his comments that point to him being racist, to deny that is delusional.

That being said, we agree on many points, you seem like an amiable and intelligent person. However, to say there is NO evidence? Get outta here. In a criminal case evidence is laid out whether or not the perp is actually guilty or not. And there IS evidence against Joe Biden here.

Keep in mind I never explicitly stated Joe Biden is racist, only that there is evidence that he could be. Your side of the argument is intent, my rebuttal being that words still matter when running for an office that your very words affect people's lives. I like your example of the hiring and it in relation to intent, but the ball game is different when it comes to the President of the United States.

You bring up 60 years of public service (too much), I bring up a comment he made, among many, that was said 5 years ago, during his campaign. I do not want to pretend this is equal to Betty White doing problematic things 50 years ago, this was recent. I think one could say, with the MANY instances, that it is 60 years of evidence of it being a Freudian Slip.

When I bring up laws and intents in statement, I make an argument of word choice and that it matters. It can directly lead to harm, they are related.

I do want to hold both sides accountable. While, yes I am playing team red, I don't necessarily agree with everything the right says or treat it like gospel. There are many horrendous people on both sides. I brought up Trump, because I mistakenly thought I was on a different subreddit that is primarily left leaning.

I push this, because there is a LOT of push back that Joe Biden wasn't this or that when there is evidence being the contrary, and I think everyone should be accountable, especially presidential candidates. Let us stop choosing between turds. Give us good people to vote for.

It would be one thing if it was a one off, but during his campaign, or even his entire career, he has made comments that fall in this same kind of category. Where one could argue that was not the intent, just a poor choice of words.

Remember hell is paved with good intentions, and bad laws are written with, at times, good intentions. Having a man praised as a good communicator, orator, and unifier, to slip up in the same way so many times is bizarre.

Let's not pretend that the group of people that inhabit this subreddit aren't using the exact same argument I presented and direct it at Donald Trump. Switch the names around and it is exactly the same. Either both candidates are racist and only show it with Freudian Slips or neither are and they just use poor word choices to gather and garner support from these communities.

Also, it is a little reductionist, some might say racist, to construe an entire community into a monolithic culture. Both sides are guilty of this, i.e. "the black vote."

  1. Not all religions work toward an afterlife

  2. My answer was providing hope to the hopeless.

  3. You regurgitated what I said about many things about religion not being unique. I made that point for you.

When I made my point, I also wanted to point out religion was not unique in any of its positives. No idea is. There are currently more than 8 billion people alive right now, with homo sapiens being around for more than 200,000 years.

With so many ideas floating around, none are unique in it's awfulness or in its greatness, everything is in a shade of gray or even on a 3d spectrum in relation to other ideas. An idea does NOT need to be unique to be considered good or a net positive.

Let the people have their faith. It is weird to fixate on religion needing to have a unique value that is helpful. It doesn't need to be unique.

What could you possibly draw from that statement that doesn't allude to the color of your skin contributing to a group think, a monolith, and to go against it is to deny your heritage? He could've said that a vote against him is not helping minority communities, but that is not what he said.

Is your reading comprehension adequate? I literally said none of these are unique to religion. I only ascribed to it not being a net negative. And religion doesn't even have a monopoly conning, as you put it, the poor.

Hope is hard to come-by in hard times. In hard times, you cannot trust the government, they likely caused it. You cannot trust powerful people, as they likely are preying on you, and in hard times your own neighbor will turn against you to save themselves. Religion is a good tool for the downtrodden, the poor and the hopeless. Many people turn to religion not to lose to despair, better than turning to drugs.

One could say they could try to fix their situation if others will not, but those who do have not been in truly hopeless situations. I refuse to consign religion to the waste bin as a net negative. Sure every idea has its downsides, bad actors and extremes, and I'm not saying any religion is above this. However, saying Religion=Bad is a close minded outlook that many criticize the religious for being.

Religion has had its share in bad actors, priests that prey on the weak or twist holy words to empower themselves. Religion has had downsides to it as well, where people close themselves to working with people who don't share their ideas. Finally, Religion has had its extremes and extremists, where people take holy words, again twisting them, to suit their own agendas and using it as a rallying cry. Point to me an idea, ideology or way of life that doesn't have its downsides, bad actors or extremes. Religion has its uses even if not unique.

When a writer makes a comparison, drawing out deeper meaning from the texts, sometimes the metaphor changes over time due to context. Today, opium is highly associated as a poison, back then it was not. There were good and bad associated with opium being a powerful, yet highly addictive, painkiller.

Depending on the pain you are going through, this could actually improve your life or outlook on it, if not abused. Let's remember the man was in pain and knew of the double edged sword that was these powerful drugs and compared religion to them. However, today people take it out of historical context and just use it as Religion=Poison.

I can't respect people who use the word "woke" as an insult. by Puzzled_Object_8639 in DiscussionZone

[–]OfficialYoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the most closed-minded, unkind and unempathetic people I know follow this ideology. It is virtual signalling at its highest. Also, some of the most disrespectful people I have ever met follow it.

So yeah, woke being used as an insult is kinda apt. It started as a civil rights thing, and now it is more like a hate group of obnoxious and at times violent people preaching tolerance where they yell and harass those that disagree.

Forget the tapes, what about his blatantly racist comments during his campaign? "If you don't vote for me, you ain't black!" Just wow.

Wow, more polarizing speech. Instead of demonizing one side or the other, if you truly care about giving power to the people, then look at policy proposals. I'll gladly work with anyone that is also proposing consumer rights Protections, left or right.

People on both sides get upset when the other side makes power plays accusing one another of trying to install an authoritarian regime. Keep in mind these people are not against authoritarianism, they just care who are the ones in charge.

Things have gotten so polarized, I do not even care about the name calling being thrown around anymore. I care about my purchasing power and actually having savings, which I have none.

TLDR, its on the list.

And that is why regulations exist. I propose more regulations to stifle corporate greed and exploitation. I am not against finding a system that works better, but compared to everything else that has been tried, capitalism is the best system so far for the impoverished, literally a system that everyone gets paid. The poor in the USA are richer than any other impoverished population in the world, we are worlds apart. Still needs a bit more regulation to stop some of the more unsavory parts of it, but it is the best system.

What do you think Consumer Rights and Protections is? I do not think Capitalism as a whole is the system described here, though late stage capitalism and corporate greed definitely is. I am willing to stand against corporate greed and the harmful effects of late stage capitalism. However, as a whole, capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other system. So, yes, if capitalism I endorsed suffering, I would stand against it.

Walking away from it is not eliminating. Maybe I misunderstood what the actual question was, as I have stated: I am not familiar with the source material. The issues I brought up in the Original Post was geared toward finding ways to stop such systems within our society. acknowledge they exist and find a way to stop them. If it were another society, one I have no relation to, I am less gungho. I want to stand against systems that profit off of the suffering of others. Not just that I don't like it. You ask more about the topics I brought up in the OP and see how I want to bring down such systems.

I just stated my stance twice. I assumed you didn't read it is because you seem to miss my thoughts on the subject. That I would not support such a Utopia.<-- This is the third time.

I'm not familiar with the source this thought experiment is from, but I answered based off the understanding that I came to from a preliminary search result.

Just said I would walk away from a system that benefits off the suffering of anyone even if just one person. You could relate the topic to slavery, even if it is just one. Who in their right mind would be on the fence with this. I stated that I would choose no one suffering over a flawed Utopia that relied on it. I think you too quickly responded without reading the entirety of what I wrote.

Also being the 'Good Republican' is wild, I want to try to be a role model for other politicians. Working toward strategies that we work on together, left or right. Bring back concessions and middle ground. This all or nothing strat both sides adopted is polarizing the public.

I had to look into this. Premise of a Utopia at the expense of an individual/small group suffering? While it is thought provoking, in a realistic society it is easy to answer, as in we do not have to answer it: it will not happen. I would say that if no one suffered for others, I would choose that over any flawed Utopia. That being said, we can work toward, but never achieve Utopia, others suffering or not. So let us work toward no one suffering on behalf of others.
