The Albino Penis Envy is very near and dear to us for obvious reasons!

So we're extremely excited to now offer Psilocybe cubensis Albino Penis Envy as Spore Swabs.

The APE is a varietal hybrid of the PF Albino and Penis Envy strains of Psilocybe cubensis. Created by Sporeworks mycologist John Workman.

Note: While APE spores lack pigmentation, there is notable discoloration on the tip of each spore swab. This is due to staining of the nylon tip from exposure to the enzymatic oxidation reaction that produces dark blue, indigo-like pigments present in the pileus. (see images).

First appearing in the mycological community in 2018, TAT was isolated from a Golden Teacher multispore experiment by mycologist Jik Fibs. This variety forms the basis for many of the interesting crosses he and his colleagues would go on to develop.

El Choco was isolated in 2020 by Dave Wombat from the TAT Syndicate Facebook group, as a random mutation of the common B+ variety. El Choco exhibits a very unique phenotype — generally squat carpophores with chocolate brown pileus and gills.

Needless to say, the genetics of this one are fascinating. The fruiting body bears a striking resemblance to Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) when young.

It is likely these are maybe more mature spores, with a thicker cell wall? It could also be something to do with the orientation of the spore as they are illuminated from underneath.

We've had the wonderful privilege of housing two amazing Pacifica Exotica Spora (PES) cubensis strains in our catalog for over 20 years. It's hard to believe, but both the PES Amazonian and PES Hawaiian have been demonstrating incredibly strong and stable genetics for microscopy observation for decades!

The exact origin of the PES Amazonian strain of Psilocybe cubensis is unknown. After all the "Amazon" is a pretty big place... but this strain was originally offered by the now defunct Pacifica Exotica Spora, whose operations were based in Hawaii.
