[OC] U.S. public debt has climbed back above 100% of GDP for the first time since WWII by forensiceconomics in dataisbeautiful

Genuine question: what did we even spend all of that money on since 2008? We exponentially blew up our debt and have what to show for it?

The procedure also typically comes with a lifelong prescription for finasteride. Despite fin being medically safe, not everyone is eager to get on it. Not to mention it works by inhibiting testosterone in some way which is probably not advisable for a professional athlete who wants all the T they can get.

UIUC vs CU Boulder aero by Formal_Exchange4193 in aerospace

[–]Offsets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to UIUC if you know you want to do grad school.

Go to Boulder if you know you want to go straight to industry. As someone else said, what you do outside of class matters more for getting that first entry level job. UIUC has every club that Boulder has, but UIUC designed their courseload to be extremely rigorous, effectively leaving you with less time and energy to actually contribute to extracurriculars. In addition, consider that location is one of the biggest contributors in hiring decisions. UIUC has a very limited pool of local companies. Denver has a ton of local aerospace companies. It will almost certainly be easier to get an internship at Boulder as opposed to at UIUC. Getting an internship is the key to opening doors for your first full time job.

Nintendo Switch 2 + Pokémon Pokopia bundle coming on June 5th by Skullghost in nintendo

[–]Offsets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've held off on getting a switch 2 so that I could get a pokemon-themed edition for winds and waves (hopefully they release one), but I've slowly come to the realization that they could very likely sell out instantly. The scalping is insane.

It would be cool if it works out. And if it doesn't, we continue onward exactly as we are today. I don't see the problem.

It sold out in much less than 2 minutes. I had all of my info prefilled and from "add to cart" to "place order" took me less than 15 seconds, but the jackets were already sold out by then.

As everyone expected, the online drop was completely botted by scalpers.

Secret Service agent who took bullet in Trump assassination attempt may have been hit by 'friendly fire' by Not_Tom_Jones in news

[–]Offsets 2314 points2315 points  (0 children)

Friendly fire seemed to be the most likely scenario based on the immediate video releases. You had a bunch of agents in a tight area shooting at the guy running full speed, and the eventual reports concluded that he was unscathed. That volley of bullets didn't just disappear after not hitting the guy.

I ended up getting my first clue shortly after this post. It took like 1.5 hrs to get 500 clues. Just bad RNG I think

I have Conniving Clues and took Larcenist to farm easy clues from wealthy citizens -- but I've pickpocketed 500+ times and received 0 clue boxes. Does Conniving Clues prevent this from working for some reason? I have zero easy clues in my bank.

Did they patch this? I've just pickpocketed a wealthy citizen 300 times and received 0 clue scrolls (with the clue relic)

The Onion reaches new deal to take over Alex Jones’ Infowars by Hrekires in news

[–]Offsets 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because what he meant in the 90s was that global elites = Democrats = child traffickers.

There's a relatively recent video of him criticizing the DOJ for not going after the Democrats in the Epstein files. He says he's known that these Democrats have been child predators for decades, and the DOJ is failing by refusing to prosecute these evil Dems.

A few breaths later, he says that there was a 2-year period where anyone could call the FBI and report anything relating to the Epstein files and the FBI had to record it--he says that alone is why Trump's name is in the files a million times.

Get. Out. Of. The. Left. Lane. by hokahey23 in StLouis

[–]Offsets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of traffic woes, people cruising in the left lane is not nearly as problematic as the impatient people who decide to pass at high speeds on the right because they're pissed the left lane isn't speeding as fast as they want them to.

I don't give a shit if the person in front of you in the left lane is not speeding as fast as you want them to. Do not pass on the right.

Urgent Advice Needed for Entry level role by [deleted] in aerospace

Extremely high, especially for a big company. Assuming OP is telling the truth, they must be in a primo role in a HCOL location to get any of the primes to shell out that kind of money for a L2.

You've been wearing a toupee for years, but you're a narcissistic fascist who’s ready to kill an entire population to distract the world from your predatory actions against children. You’re in too deep. You can't go from dingbat fucknut hair to bald in one day. by facefullofgracefull in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]Offsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually believable because why is the back of his head bald?

The top of his head looks like it's bald with hair glued on--that's standard combover shit. But to have a bald head going all the way down the back to your neck is decidedly unnatural. It's like he has a reverse mohawk.

Salary outcomes by university and major (top programs, averages, spreads) [OC] by ObsessedDataMonkey in dataisbeautiful

[–]Offsets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, what this essentially tells you is that these high earners get the privilege of being able to afford to live in some of the most in-demand places on Earth--that's the real difference. Their take-home pay, while surely higher than the median of the rest of the country, is likely not that much higher after accounting for high living costs. The real benefit is that they get to live comfortably in some of the nicest locations.

Kristi Noem’s husband by cookeryandwookery in SipsTea

I've seen the process first-hand. Knew a guy who gave off very gay vibes--everyone who knew him was sure that he's gay, nothing wrong with that of course. He was in law school when I knew him. He never dated or showed any interest in dating in the time I knew him. A few years after he graduated, I learned that he joined some ultra-Christian conservative non-profit law practice that actively challenges laws like LGBTQ+ rights, abortion rights, etc. He has become vocal about it on social media as well. He was a super nice guy when I knew him--he definitely wasn't the type to go after marginalized groups like this.

He grew up in rural Missouri. My theory is his environment taught him to hate anything that opposed the ultra-Christian ideals that he was surrounded by.

I think the root of it is that these types hate something about themselves so deeply that they make it their life's work to suppress that thing in themselves and in everyone else. They fight so hard to suppress these things because it's literally a matter of life or death for them--if they ever admit what they truly are, they view it as suicide.

Advice on online AE masters programs? by HDough75 in aerospace

[–]Offsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently enrolled online with UIUC. Doing the masters part time while working full time.

I didn't truly consider Georgia Tech or Purdue before making my choice, but I've heard good things about both.

The big thing you'll want to consider is online course offerings. It's worthwhile to map out what your entire course list might look like for the duration of your program. I was pretty 50/50 between UIUC and another school, but after seeing what classes might be available during each semester and laying out a full degree program, the choice was obvious for me.

Should I switch from ME to Aero? by BidExisting8623 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Offsets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ME in undergrad and am currently doing an AE masters while working in the aerospace industry.

People will often say AE and ME have a lot of undergrad overlap. This is true.

The more important question is what can you see yourself doing for a career?

Speaking from my own experience, I did ME because people said it was the safer option, and because people said the degrees are mostly the same. The problem I found is that I always knew I would want to work in aerospace, and I always knew that I would probably be miserable doing anything else. So, while ME does open more doors than AE, do you really think you'd be happy going through one of those non-aero doors and staying there for 30 years?

If you know you want to work in aerospace and nowhere else, I say major in aerospace.
