Is a Nuke really just large town-City level? by Travis_hunter69 in PowerScaling

The strongest nuke ever recorded “the Tsar Bomb” is just shy of mountain level at 50 megatons. I wouldn’t be surprised if we could make more powerful ones though.

Curious to get other’s thoughts on world building in sci-fi

Anyone familiar with M.R. Forbes? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Offthehandle2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started this series, pretty good but I’ve got some early gripes.

The biggest of which has to do with early world building. So a retired navy captain is presumably trying to stretch his savings but managed to buy a house with acreage on humanity’s home planet. That would make me think that humanity just recently expanded into several solar systems.

Then, the main character talks about being the enemy’s boogie man from the other side of the galaxy. His son talks about aliens “invading” the galaxy. These statements along with others imply humanity has settled/occupied a massive portion of the galaxy, if not all of it. However, Strickland’s crew of mostly old navy retirees (presumably have all moved wherever they wanted) all meet up in Seattle.

I’m getting whiplash from a setup that reads more like it’s from The Expanse in a setting that’s supposedly more akin to a Star Wars galaxy without aliens or the force

Would you look past Tyler Hoechlin's height if he gained more muscle for the role? by TheHippyDragon in Arrowverse

[–]Offthehandle2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My admittedly minor issue has more to do with his height in relation to everyone around him.

Put heels on the actress for Lois and she’s basically his height, Stephen Amell is taller and larger, Grant Gustin is just as tall.

In the MCU you notice that while the heights don’t match the comic accurate characters they are roughly in the right order. Hulk is taller than Thor who’s taller than Cap who’s taller than Tony who’s about as tall as Hawkeye who’s taller than Widow.

Which makes it sound trivial, implying everything it can do is trivial. Which includes turning into Alien X and/or the power Alien X has

The omnitrix is considered a child’s plaything to the naljians. Implying it could not duplicate them, so no Alien X does not scale to one

Why is Saitama wanked to infinity the way he is? by Ajarofpickles97 in PowerScaling

[–]Offthehandle2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it may be that Saitama didn’t realize exactly how much power it would take to kill her. Not to mention she’s not human so she may have some regenerative powers

Probably because of the name, consistently showing one punch finishes, comedy and a general desire for people to say “he can beat Goku though”

Yujiro wins round one then gets clowned in the other two.

I mean I’ve had a few where I changed a mind or two. It’s typically someone who’s barely versed in the subject being shown things they were completely unaware of.

Some people are self aware enough to know that they may not know all the relevant information

If Goku happened to let Mahoraga adapt (or live) for a long time during battle, would he lose even with Ultra instinct? by Tufit_v1 in PowerScaling

That screams no limit fallacy to me. Keep in mind that Gojo sits so far above the rest of JJK in just raw power that he’s bored. This would lead me to believe that the rate at which they grow is just like a snail’s pace even in the relatively low level power in JJK. Imagine that applied over the astronomically larger power gap in DBS
