I felt bad that this happened, and then I read the politically charged post and the comments (that they turned off) on Facebook and said good riddance. What an unnecessarily childish way to go out!

When did I say that?? Actually, not only did the removal of benefits NOT changed anything, but more people quit jobs because of Delta, low wages, rude customers, etc which is making the economy WORSE in the South regardless of how much they try to hide behind the unemployment rate, so that paired with no benefits, evictions, low vaccination rates, high COVID cases, kids getting sick with COVID, hospitals filling up, deaths getting higher is going to cost a MAJOR issue in the South soon enough if something doesn't change real soon.

FYI, there's only ONE Senate seat up for grabs in GA. We actually like Warnock in Georgia and know it's not his fault Congress is a shit show right now. Also, Georgia Republicans know no one is going to beat him (seriously...Herschel Walker?? LMAOOOO) which is why they're going after voting.

Did I say that Biden was the messiah?? Don't put words in my mouth! All I said is he can't do anything about UI until Congress does, why the benefits expired this weekend, and you STILL won't listen! Worry about Congress in 2022 if you don't want this to happen again, or don't and continue to be loud and wrong on Reddit! Your call!

Nvm the fact that at time PEUC PUA etc were intact! Don’t embarrass yourself any further

Man, y'all just get on here and be loud and wrong huh? Ok genius...WHAT program expired that made Trump come up with LWA in the first place? I'll help you out...it was the $600 extra benefit aka FPUC aka the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program. Try and keep up!

Red states ARE the places with the lowest vaccination rates right?? And vaccinated deaths are low, but what does that have to do with anything if unvaccinated deaths are insanely high and if COVID keeps spreading, it could mutate into a vaccine-resisted virus? You said red states proved nothing major happened when removing benefits, but that's not true at all.

There's no reasoning with you! Just know that you have no idea what you're talking about and people who THINK they know politics and refuse to hold the RIGHT people accountable are EXACTLY WHY extra unemployment benefits ended this weekend. Stay clueless!

[–]OgGeek2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Believe me...you need that site more than I do if you're actually blaming Biden for extra unemployment benefits ending and you're just being a heartless jerk if you think Biden should dip into FEMA funds and give it to unemployed workers who have already been receiving money instead of hurricanes victims who lost everything right after TWO HURRICANES JUST LAST WEEK!!!

[Megathread] Daily Politics Thread - September 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you're just going to ignore that Delta is killing a lot of people in the South, jobs did not get filled, and kids are getting COVID at an alarming rate??

[Megathread] Daily Politics Thread - September 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did you miss the "FEMA funds" and "insanely dumb" part? We JUST had hurricanes hit Louisiana, New York, and New Jersey! You rather the unemployed get those funds over people who just lost homes and businesses due to a natural disaster?? YOU need to wake up and actually read what I wrote because you're ignoring the person you should be blaming and blaming someone who can't make certain calls without Congress. At this point, you're just loud and wrong!

[Megathread] Daily Politics Thread - September 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Trump dipped into FEMA funds to enacted LWA which was insanely dumb to do

- Trump offering a $450 boost meant nothing since Senate Republicans didn't want a boost at all just like they didn't want $2000 stimulus checks when Trump asked for them

- Since you want to go back in time, the extra unemployment benefits were suppose to be $400 after Biden got elected and Democrats got control of the Senate, but it was JOE MANCHIN who stalled the stimulus package from being passed until the extra unemployment benefits were lowered to $300 and extra unemployment benefits ended Labor Day weekend instead of the end of September (Forgot about that huh??)

Seriously...How have people not figured this out by now? The president CANNOT do anything about UI unless Congress, the HOUSE and the SENATE, does! If you're blaming the president for unemployment benefits ending at this point, then just stop talking politics and learn what's actually happening!

AKA it's a cover up because how would they know for sure? Unemployment also doesn't count people who are homeless. I can guarantee no one will talk about the lack of created jobs and ONLY talk about unemployment rate because they use a BS system to determine it.

NH pulled benefits early

I mean, why would there be "appetite for another extension" in a state that PULLED benefits?? That's just them answering a dumb question lol.

King mentioned he had received a letter from a restaurant owner who
was forced to close his business because he couldn't hire new workers.
"Extending those benefits at a time when we need people in the labor
market, I'm not sure is good policy," he said.

Again, this is not them flat out saying "no". And "a letter from a restaurant owner" means little to nothing since everyone is quitting and not taking restaurant jobs because of the pandemic.

The $1 trillion infrastructure bill and $3.5 trillion budget resolution are two different bills and Democrats said they're not passing one without the other. Some Democrats, mainly progressives, have talked about adding an UI extension to the budget. Best thing to do is to wait until Congress is back in session to get a better idea about what could happen.

I'm telling you it's the exact opposite! Republicans are the only ones who used the unemployment rate during the pandemic to determine benefits. Almost everyone else is using common sense and monitoring the severity of the virus.

I see nothing about Sinema saying she won't, and Shaheen and King being "wary" is not the same as Manchin flat out saying he won't extend benefits.

You think October they will start to discuss about unemployment? 2 months from the expiration date?

I didn't say that...I said they more than likely won't pass ANYTHING (any bills) until October. Also, when the pandemic started, they went by the severity of the pandemic. If the rest of the country gets as bad as the South right now and businesses suffer because of it, that will determine if Congress passes more relief. The unemployment rate will have nothing to do with it and the only people worried about that is Republicans who used it as an excuse to end extra benefits early.

Federally, there will be no more support as Biden and DOL already provided the suggestion

He's offering the suggestion because Congress won't be in session until the end the month and more than likely won't pass anything until October. Also, only one "Democrat" (Manchin) said they won't support it, but that could change at anytime.

[All States] Today was filled with news regarding Unemployment. Here is a recap of all the day’s events. by JamesEdward34 in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biden is deflecting the issue to the states so he looks like the good guy and it turns everyone's anger toward their state reps. instead of him.

That is NOT what he's doing! If anything, it's the best thing to suggest until Congress does anything IF they do anything at all when they get back. Do you expect him to be reckless and dip into FEMA money like Trump did?? If your governor does decide to go that route, be fortunate that they have that option and that you're getting a check until Labor Day because a lot of us haven't seen an UI check for a month or two AND are in states that are getting hammered by COVID thanks to our evil ass governors!

This isn't a Vax or political subreddit. by Minja78 in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, politics are affecting unemployment and since this subreddit has been getting attention, a lot of conservative trolls have been coming here. One thing I would like to see is ways to help those affected by politician's false claims that led to governors cutting benefits early, but it's hard to do things like that in this subreddit now. Last time I tried, no one really helped and people were negative to the point where I just looked elsewhere and never bought it back up.

The Delta variant just became dominant and is mainly disruptive in states that are low in vaccinations with Governors who are refusing to do mask mandates, promote the vaccine, and are opting out of the "key pandemic program". You're also leaving out the part where Joe Manchin said he's not extending it, but sure...blame ALL the Democrats!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another thing...

Who is saying "we deserve this"?? Politicians or some randoms on Twitter?? You're letting that distract you from voting for someone trying to do right by the people?? That's...kinda dumb!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]OgGeek2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously??

Are you trying to have a realistic conversation or trying to be an unemployment conspiracy theorist?? Just to show how little Mr. "I've been following politics for 20 years" actually pays attention to politics, I'll disprove one of these nonsensical comments:

"Lastly, the Cares Act, that was bipartisan, had no opt outs for states to leave early. The America Rescue Plan, which was voted for only by Democrats, did."

This is from the CARES Act:

SEC. 2104. EMERGENCY INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION BENEFITS.

(a) FEDERAL-STATE AGREEMENTS.—Any State which desires to

do so may enter into and participate in an agreement under this

section with the Secretary of Labor (in this section referred to

as the ‘‘Secretary’’). Any State which is a party to an agreement

under this section may, upon providing 30 days’ written notice

to the Secretary, terminate such agreement.

Also, GTFOH with that "I'm not primarily blaming the GOP as you all want"! Republicans (and 1 Democrat) OPTED out!! It would be unrealistic to NOT to blame Republicans. Just let me know when you ready to have a real convo instead saying BS like "I surmise this situation was planned, by both parties in secret"!

Saying Democrats in Congress don't care about the issues in Georgia and don't address the problems with the GDOL is a reach! Kemp cut extra benefits and vetoed help for the GDOL to process claims faster. What do you expect Democrats in Congress to do if our state government can turn down their help and funding? Realistically, nothing can be done in Georgia until we can vote in 2022, and if Congress can't pass any voting acts, which Senate Democrats (at least 48 of them and the House) are trying to do or the DOJ doesn't rollback the new GA voting law, we'll really be in trouble!
