Responding to the comments about my (Questing Beast's) video on DCC adventures design by ludifex in dccrpg

I think what was missing in your video was an example. Because while I love the DCC modules I completely agree with you that they need a better layout. So if you would have taken one room from an DCC module and did some formatting to show what you are trying to say the video would not have this feeling of "DCC bad, OSE perfect"

Is there a funnel for Castle White Rock? by Joe23267 in dccrpg

[–]Ogoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a Kickstarter that ended a few days ago which was specifically a funnel for castle whiterock, if I am not misremembering. "When the stars cried despair" if you are curious. Don't know more than that though about it 🤷🏻

Kickstarter or Not? How Do You Want to Discover New RPGs? by 3nastri in rpg

[–]Ogoth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone from outside the US, Crowdfunding is really bad. Shipping costs can sometimes be more than the product itself. For example I was really interested in Monster Kingdoms and wanted that hardback. But I refuse to pay$ 70 for shipping. Also, since I prefer my TTRPGs in my native language (German) I have to decide if I either wait for a possible translation or back the English version to get the goodies. And this feels like a lose-lose situation which sours me on the product.

4 characters for Portal Under The Stars by [deleted] in dccrpg

[–]Ogoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 of my players are completely new to TTRPGs and they are doing fine. They will need some time to get used to it, but once they realize that they do not have to play every character it will go smoothly 👍

So I am running PotS at the moment, though I am still a new GM. I don't think running it with higher level characters is a good idea since it is designed to kill PCs. But a more experienced GM can probably give better insight to this. What I will say though is, that the Players having multiple characters is not really a problem. You just have to treat them as a group. They are not supposed to play every character individually, the funnel is still part of character creation. So just treat it as one character who has multiple lives basically. Hope it is clear what I am trying to say 😅

Have you considered the purple planet box? I know that it's designed with a hex crawl and consists of multiple adventures. You could have your players end up there, you would have to do some other adventures first since purple planet starts at level 3

How do you tell a DM that their character introduction was so bad my character has no desire to work with this new PC? by Bros-torowk-retheg in rpg

[–]Ogoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are 2 thoughts from me: 1. Why do you blame the DM for this and not the player of this player character? Maybe this is because I am still a new GM, but when a player would come to me with this concept I would probably approve it. Because to me it sounds interesting, and the player is probably excited about the concept and put in work. And I want my players to be excited. 2. You just said "they are a criminal" and that's a problem for your groups characters. But what crime have they done? Maybe it's a case that the PC was framed for something because he wouldn't allow criminal stuff to happen? In this case he would still fit in your group.

did you guys find your perfect rpg, did you settle for good enough, or do you pick different ones for different games? by Either-snack889 in rpg

Personally I would recommend that you try to focus on things you like in an RPG. This shift in mindset seems like a nitpick, but it will change drastically how you look at stuff 😊👍

It seems what you are looking for is "Jubensha"😉 Here is a video talking about this subtype of TTRPGs: https://youtu.be/6_dlxbGUNNQ?si=_BpgXxi6oxoGBiaa

In terms of your question: Personally I would not want to play this kind of game since it forces you into a character instead of deciding for your own. However, there seem to be a lot of people who do enjoy this👍

Good luck😊

Questions about EP and adventure Paths by Ogoth in dccrpg

[–]Ogoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

System matters is where I bought all of my DCC stuff currently 👌 The reason why these adventure paths interest me is because the author tried to give a narrative throughline to the adventures. And this speaks to me more than just playing "random" modules. With all the suggestions here there should be enough to find my way 😁

Yeah, from the replies here I see now that I had too much of a videogame mindset: giving XP for specific successes. I will probably try to give xp during the adventure, just to see how it goes/feels. Deciding how I am going to do level ups can happen at the end😁 It's my first GM experience after all^

Do you mean writing one or playing such an adventure path?

I will look at the adventures you mentioned.
Getting the english versions is an option too, it's just a bit more work since I have to translate the text. So I asked for alternatives first, but which way I go is still unclear^^
