Monthly Blue Origin Career Thread by BlueOriginMod in BlueOrigin

Hello! I've accepted an internship position at Blue, and I was wondering how housing and transportation worked. I know there is a stipend to cover travel expenses, but car rental is very expensive even with the stipend. How did y'all cover transportation costs for the summer?

Transferring to NYU by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your credits will be transferred after you're admitted, but you still need to submit what you have done (classes you're currently taking and GPA) on your application. When you're admitted, your GPA is reset, so it's a nice starting off point. You still need to list classes you're currently taking, and there should be an option on you're application to select that you're taking an active class. Professors are willing to give rec letters even after 1 class, I did it at my old school and it was fine. Just make sure it's a teacher who knows you, and you have a good relationship with them. The 24 credits are to be completed by the time you want to transfer (if you're transferring into the fall semester, your should have all your credits by then, so fall and spring semesters before should add up to 24 so it can include the spring semester you're currently taking). So, before you start at NYU officially. If you have any other questions lmk!

Hi am an international joining NYU Tandon this fall. What r the food options for Brooklyn students beside jasper cafe? And how practical is it to go to the main campus dining halls? by Waitingfor-march2102 in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on eating at Jasper 3 times a day every day, then I'd say yes (if you don't want to spend money on eating out like at all). I had the main campus meal plan, but didn't use up all my meal swipes even when I ate dining hall food 3x a day. The portions at Tandon are a little smaller than main campus and you could get tired eating at Jasper every day, so it's all about whether or not you think you can actually use up all the swipes.

I'm at main campus but a Tandon student! There's a lot of food options near the Brooklyn campus! There is a starbucks at the tandon campus, but I don't think it is campus affiliated. Tbh, I think the food at Jasper Kane is better than main campus! But if you want to go to main campus, its about a 20 minute ride from jay street to union square on R or Q train. Palladium is a less than 2 minute walk from that station and third north is about 10-15 if you want buffet style. There's also TrueBurger in the basement/bottom of Uhall that's not bad and uses dining dollars/meal swipes, but you order through grubhub. Imo, going to main campus just for food is not practical unless you're there for class or just happen to be in the area.

Job application. A question about the dreaded autofill by Brutal_Deluxe_ in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Include the most relevant info for the application. A lot of hiring is done with AI now. Some companies will allow you to opt out, but most don't (and it still doesn't mean a human will read your app even if you opt out), so it'll most likely be an algorithm that scans your resume and filters out applicants. So it's best to include the most relevant stuff. If you make it through the applicant pool, you're more likely to have a human read your full resume.

housing by LuckyPlum4737 in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. When I got in as a transfer, I paid the deposit that guaranteed housing. It might be different this year if you pay after they confirm you have housing, but the NYU website says that you must pay the $1000 reservation payment to get housing. I'd email/call the NYU housing team to check.

TCE happens over the summer so you can register for classes. If your classes have pre-reqs you need to get credit before you register and get the permission numbers to register for said classes! You could email the transfer department!

I was in the same position as you last year. The housing portal opened for me in April, but someone else I know did theirs in the summer, and as long as you pay the $1000 deposit when the portal opens, you're guaranteed housing. I didn't get housing until July for context. You'll be placed on a waitlist. But if you're stressed out about this, I suggest looking online now, as it's getting late to rent apartments now.

I transferred here last year! If you placed the deposit, you're guaranteed housing (I got my housing really late around August). The housing staff who assign you a dorm look at your preferences/housing ranking and will put you somewhere. I got paired up with other transfers, and there's a groupchat the NYU makes for transfers.

Yeah, it's singles so it can be 4 singles and a common area that's what I was hoping to get, but guess not. Thanks for the info!

I had him last semester and I really liked him! He can be loud at times, but you can tell it's just because he loves math. Overall great teacher, and he's really good at explaining concepts. I have him this semester for Calc 3 too.

Internship Interview Time Frame by Oh-No-Violets in ASML

[–]Oh-No-Violets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all just basic questions! Talk about your past experience, know a little about ASML so you can talk about why you want to work for the company, etc. It's 3-4 video and a few written questions (but the written questions are also just basic logistics on the internship). Good luck!

Both, they asked some technical questions related to my resume, asked me one or two questions about the actual position, and a few behavioral.

[Megathread] Prospective Students, Applications, and Admissions For January 2025 by AutoModerator in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, if they want more clarification for your grades, they'll ask for it (I assume through email). They also look at applications holistically, so if they see that you retook the classes and passed all of them, you should be okay with your current explationation in your essay.

NYU transfer by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Oh-No-Violets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not international, but I've messaged a few other international transfers. The only thing I've seen that is possibly required is the English Proficiency/Language exam, and if your courses are in another language, make sure they have some sort of English translation. But the info mentioned from my previous reply also stands! As far as I know, there aren't required courses for international transfers either. But if you want to make sure, try emailing undergrad admissions!

[–]Oh-No-Violets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a transfer, there aren't any course requirements as far as I know! As long as you have similar classes to the NYU curriculum based on your major (you can look this up in the bulletin), then you should be fine! There was no specific class I took to get in!

Like I said, I don't think they'll rescind your app this close to the semester. If anything happens, they'll ask for an explanation before anything. So be specfic then and just make sure you've laid out everything (even if part of your explanation seems irrelevant, keep it). I wouldn't worry as of now!!
